Is he playing for a new contract. He’s been too class since he’s come back into the side and we’ve conceded far less.
Is he after a new contract here or playing to attract a massive wedge elsewhere?

Rav VDB may well be an ideal replacement if he goes.

Didn’t Paddy say that he didn’t like to play in central defence years ago? Maybe, as he gets older and wiser, he will realise that is his best position. Especially seeing as central defenders in our team have plenty of the ball, passing it about. (y)

Is this the same Paddy that so many fans were writing off as past it on this board earlier in the season? If so I hope those doubters come back on to admit they were wrong.

He has looked great since he started playing left cb. He looked suspect at right back at start of season. Weirdly he seems to play better on the left as that's where he had his best spell for Wilder.

If he carries on this form lenihan will find it difficult to get back in team. I wouldn't be adverse to him signing on but I imagine the reason there has been no talk about it is we won't match his current deal and will at best offer a new deal with a significant wage drop. You can see him getting better offers than what we can afford at the moment.

He's deserving of a new deal. He gets so much stick for no reason. He's a top professional whos played in a variety of positions for us.

The 'issue' is that he's one of our highest earners. So what can we offer in a new deal? We can't go higher or even match. Definitely not over a 3-4 year deal. It's very much like Akpom (also a high earner). We simply can't match 'old terms'. Nevermind better them.

I imagine we signed Rav VDB with one eye on Paddy's situation. Also hopefully Clarke fit. I'd not be suprised to see Paddy move on for a nominal fee in Jan. I'm sure Carrick will want to keep. Yet he's hardly going to stay on reduced terms.

That's said he's been class the last month or so.

My criticism of paddy has always been he jumps into tackles or interceptions and commits himself, when he could stay on his feet and slow the attacker down, and when this goes wrong it often leads to clear cut chances for the opposition, A la millwall at home this season if i remember correctly.

Since he has come back into the team however, he hasn't done this once, and he has played excellently
