Overseas Summer Holidays

Has anyone been away this year? How was the COVID testing to get away and get back? Did you get insurance in case of a positive test and if you were forced to quarantine?

I'm massively keen to get away somewhere hot but I don't think I can take the risk of a positive test and not getting back to work on time.

We did Portugal in May and flying back out this Saturday. Testing has probably cost us £180 this time for the two of us. The holiday itself was pretty cheap so we took the hit with the tests. As for insurance we have cover for cancellation etc but covering Covid mishaps will cost you a lot of money to insure.

We have just got back from Mallorca and have Croatia booked in a few weeks. I would describe it as a hassle but that’s it. At the time finding out all the rules and paperwork was the biggest hassle but I’ve discovered jet2 have the best checker for your specific country . They list everything needed in chronological order.

worst part for me was queuing to get on the plane (congested) and then in the queue to show Spanish officials we had filled in their entry form. Rest was great .

should also say getting a lateral flow test over there was brilliant . In and out in 2 mins and results in 15

We gave up on spain etc and went to jersey.
Just a free PCR test on arrival at the airport, taking an extra 25 minutes.
Had a really good week, though the weather was no better than the North East.

We've been to the Cotswolds, the Peak District and the Lake District, no need for a test at all. No queue at airports, poor weather and shyte hospitality.

It's been a good reminder as to why international holidays are so popular.

My holiday rebooked is Greece at the end of the month. Assuming we are away from the wildfires it may just happen - fourth time lucky!

It seems there are lots of stories of it being fine albeit with more hassle and admin. But I guess that only holds so long as the tests are negative. If you end up with a positive test, particularly when you are abroad, you are in a whole world of pain in quarantine and then hoping you can provide a negative result to be allowed home, although that could take weeks.

Not even considered it. Saving it for a couple of breaks next year. A week at Easter and a fortnight in the Summer.
