......went our Fergus, last night.☹️

Couple of months over 14, so for a Cav King Charles Spaniel that's bloody old.

Been in heart failure for 13 months, vet told us usually 2-3 months is normal, so the bonus year was very welcome.

Still didn't prepare us for last night, couple of seizures and we knew it was time.

Gutted😢😢

Sorry for your loss. One of our cats died last year aged 18, he had a saddle thrombosis aged 16 and vet gave him 24h and said best thing would be to euthanise as he would have no quality of life. This was him 2 years later on his 18th birthday - sadly we lost him a few months later with a severe attack, but he survived around 5 more instances and had to learn how to walk again each time. He had a great 2 years and we made sure he had every comfort, treat and experience we could. We always thought back to the vet saying he had hours to live and would have no quality of life or mobility if he did survive. He was chasing birds in the garden 3 weeks later!

Fergus won't be far away. He's had a great life but he won't be leaving you. Someone once told me that you're not dead until you are forgotten. I believe that. I feel for you and your family and know what you are going through. Just remember Fergus with his tail wagging.

Sorry for your loss. My big lad went over the bridge Jan 2020. I still sit there thinking about his daft ways every day ( boxer). You will get round to just thinking about the great life you gave him. Not just yet , but in time. And I am sure Fergus will be waiting for you , just around the corner , just out of sight.
Patiently waiting.

Feel for you mate we’ve lost a family pet recently, he wasn’t my dog; he belonged to my brother and sister in law but they lost him at the age of eleven three weeks ago. He fell ill suddenly- poor mite had a series of seizures the first of which made him blind and it turned out he had two cancerous tumours. Absolutely no inkling at all that he was poorly and in fact I was due to dog sit him the day he was put to sleep. I only used to look after him for Them when they went away and wanted to go stay overnight somewhere but it’s still a massive loss.

We had to have our 15 1/2 year old Goldie put to sleep in lockdown, like yours she had a seizure and we knew it was time and the kindest thing to do.

Incredibly hard, sorry for your loss. Remember all the joy he brought you. Dogs are the best of creatures.

So so sorry for your loss 😪😪

Rainbow Bridge poem

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears pr*ck forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over together.

Ah, HM, I really feel for you. Lost our border terrier back in May, so I know exactly how you feel.
It does get a bit easier, trust me, and at some stage the memories will bring happiness rather than pain.
Sleep tight Fergus.

Very sad to read this , my heartfelt condolences to you HM. 30 years ago I gave in and agreed to get a family dog. A black and tan Cavalier we called him Sammy. 13 and half years of nothing but joy and love. We bought a blenheim we called Sonny , same again joy and love.
