Our unwillingness to cross the ball

Apart from Jones we had little attacking threat today and we looked like we did under Warnock's 433, with Akpom up front.

It was slow, the whole team was too deep and we did get near enough players in and around the box.

We do seem very timid at times in the final third. Great to see Giles and Hackney having a dig from long range against Wigan!

Yeah it's annoying isn't it. Watch a team like Liverpool. They aren't waiting till they can get it to the byline. Forever crossing from deep. They're just scared to try anything challenging in case they get it wrong.
Put Giles further forward instead of left back and we will get crosses and btw Tommy Smith is solid but not the answer at right back.

Giles would not be able to play as a winger. He doesn’t have a turn of pace and makes no attempt to go past players. He is a semi effective wing back cos he drives from deep and tries to get crosses in before having to try and go past players

Like Beckham?
No pace but a yard of space and the cross comes in

It's not just crossing. Our entire team seems afraid to take any risks. Every ball is a safe one backwards. No penetration, no carrying the ball past players, no one-twos, no danger.

We must be so easy to defend against.

Seems to be modern day football, so many games I watch particularly in the Premier league, frustrates the hell out of me, seems to be coached out of players almost.

The Man Utd game yesterday, and the amount of times Sancho had chance to put the ball in and he never was criminal.

It's only frustrating when we give up the chance to cross when we have numbers in the box, like Smith yesterday when Jones teed him up perfectly for the first time cross.

Crossing it into the box at every opportunity only works if we can get the numbers in and around the box regularly enough to push the percentages higher that it will drop to our man, otherwise it's just giving the ball away.

Our main issue this season is failing to get enough support around the box to keep the pressure on, our midfield has been in no man's land and are easy to counter against.

Because he is our only attacking option it allows the opposition to have 2 or 3 men on him most of the time !
There was times yesterday when there was 3 and even 4 men on him… so there should have been space and spare men elsewhere but we didn’t do anything to exploit it.

I felt Jones and the rest of our attackers - Bola, Forss, McGree, Muniz et al - should have been asking themselves last night whether they genuinely gave 100% yesterday or could have done more to try and make something happen.
