Our Previous League Cup Semis

This will be our sixth time in the semis of the league cup, so we've played 10 ties at this stage since 1976.

I didn't go to the Man City games due to not being born, but I've been to all the other home legs, plus away to Stockport in '97 and Liverpool in '98.

How many on here went to all 10?

I got to all of them except the City semi as I was only 2, United away in '92 was epic, the atmosphere from the Boro end was unreal, Fergie trying to rally the United fans to respond to the wall of noise from our end, then that firework landing amongst the United fans when Slaven equalised,
The save from Falconer's header is one of the best I've ever seen.

Ahhh man…I can still see that header from Falconer now…I thought it was going in…we all did! Mayhem when Bernie scored. Fergie said in the press afterwards that it was the loudest away support he had ever heard that night.

Even though we lost, it’s still in my top 10 all time Boro games. (New thread anyone😉).
The feeling when Bernie scored right in front of us was pure adrenaline. Not sure I can get that excited any longer.
‘Chubby, Chubby, gives us a joke!’
Was next to him in the way out…

I can still picture Fergie pointing at the Boro fans and then cupping his ear at the Stretford End. He then proceeded to act as a choirmaster and the noise inside Old Trafford rose to a defending sound with both sets of supporters trying to cheer their team on.

I think 35,000 United supporters narrowly out sung 10,000 Boro fans.

We had a few chances to win the game but two good saves from Schmeichel, one at the feet of Wilkinson and the other the Falconer header, and then there was the goal line clearance by Pallister after Hendry chipped Schmeichel. Don't get me wrong, on another day Man U might have won the buster if it wasn't from some great tackles from the defence and a brilliant performance from Pears.

It felt so close that night. We almost did it.

Remember it all so well. Got an early mark from school that afternoon abd headed over with my old man.

Great times.

That run from Ripley from about 1:00, with the close up camera angle
Skipping through sliding tackles one after the other - just about my favourite piece of footage ever.
