'our own players' nonsense

Needs nipping in the bud. I don't know where it's come from but all players, whether here permanently or on loan, are our players

I agree with some loan players currently not cutting the mustard but stop this childish nonsense. It's not as if they're keeping decent development players out, we haven't got any at the moment. They're being selected either instead of senior pros or because there's no option.

Its more I'd rather give chances to players to learn the system who are going to be here for the start of next season. Ayling, Thomas and Greenwood's should definitely not be here so they aren't part of the long term project.

We have a poor squad, we bought poorly in the summer, other than vdb the rest have been pretty rubbish including the loans, then we sold Rogers and Crooks without replacement thinking we would limp through to the summer. Injuries haven’t helped but outside of our staring 11 the squad is terrible.

Some of the current starters shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team

Add to that Carricks seemingly inflexible tactics and unwillingness to change the system and we are where we are

It is no good talking sense on here, too many are still bitter about the result.

I disagree. Players will only improve by playing matches. We're not going up and I don't think we'll go down as bad as the last few weeks have been. The best thing for the club is for the players we own to be the ones that get the benefit from game time.

Completely disagree.

Engel should be starting over Thomas when there's nothing left to play for.

Dijksteel should be starting over Ayling too, if nothing else it would make it easier to sell him in the summer if he's consistently playing and not stinking the place out.

Especially when both loan players are consistently playing poorly, there are no benefits to playing them over our contracted players beyond injuries now.

I don't disagree with the general sentiment but on merit I don't think Ayling or Thomas should be starting regardless. I had little to no view one way or the other on Thomas when he came in but he's looked poor, and Ayling I thought was a good signing at the time, solid and with good experience and leadership but he's been terrible too.

Not sure why Thomas starts over Engel he looks poor tbh
Both are absolutely garbage. I can't actually believe we managed to go out and find a left back who is as bad as Engel. But I guess when we are taking loans from other Championship clubs what do we expect? We are taking players that aren't good enough to put themselves in the frame at other clubs seeking promotion.

Agree with the initial point though. I would just pick the best 11 whether they are loans or our players. We need to start getting some results from somewhere.

I've been stunned by how bad both of them are, Ayling was ok the first few games but dreadful since. I thought Ayling would be a very astute signing, similar to Tommy Smith, he'd be solid, get stuck in and he played under Bielsa so he must be good on the ball, apparently he can't do any of that. Thomas is some how even worse, looks completely lost out there and barely looks like he has seen a football before, how he has 68 appearances in the Premier League is beyond me.

there's always something to play for though. there is a big difference in how we go into next season if we lose the last 5 games and finish 21st than if we win the last 5 and finish 10th.

They're both playing *****.

Despite what some on here will say, Engel has had plenty of good games for us, regardless of the awful games he's also had.

Thomas has shown absolutely nothing to warrant taking the place off him.

Carrick has never fancied Dijksteel, but he's still our player for another year.
Ayling is performing badly and I doubt we're signing him in the summer.

👍

If we sign any of the players currently on loan then how can we have faith in the recruitment team's ability to judge a player, all 4 of them are playing poorly, some of them are the worst players on the pitch with alarming regularity. if we watch these players week in and week out while we continuously lose and we can't find anything better in the rest of the country/world who are affordable then you may as well ditch the recruitment team and look to build another

I thought we broke the bank to sign Greenwood after his free kick against Leicester?

There’s not cutting the mustard and then there’s completely awful.. the two fullbacks fall into the latter category and simply shouldn’t be playing . Ayling a legs have gone and Thomas seems like he has never played the game before.
Greenwood has had chance after chance ina team with a very low goals scored at home tally. It’s a mess , and the manager needs to try something else

Don't necessarily disagree but it doesn't change the point about leaving players out just because they are loan players.
