Our full backs

I’m not sure everyone is giving enough credit to their player who scored the second goal. It was caused by a brilliant strike, not a defensive blunder.
It’s a lovely strike but surely you can see van den Berg should be defending that better? It’s really quite terrible and a lot of the goals we concede come from simply allowing the opposition a hell of a lot of time to pick their spot from outside the box.

We don't defend particularly well and didn't someone post something about us not pressuring the ball enough over the weekend?
If we could just cut out the source a bit better then we'd be fine. There's plenty to work on, but I do think we need a bit of "nastiness" in the squad for occassions when someone needs to get a grip and get their teammates right on it. Far too many nice lads in the side and a Leadbetter or Robson character wouldn't go amiss imho.

I wonder how many times he gave the ball away?

Engel is a Really poor player who is a massive downgrade on Giles

He’s very poor defending 1 v 1 and teams seem happy for him to have possession and not press
He has played 10 games for us and has 2 assists. Extrapolate that over a season and you have 9 assists, assuming he doesn't get any better, nor worse. He has a pass completion rate of 80%. So he gives the ball away about 20% of the time. A better pass completion rate than Ryan Giles at 79%. Admittedly he has a goals conceded stat much worse than Giles, but then so does McNair and Fry this season, compared with last season.

And all this whilst having the worst start to the season that we have had for decades.

Engel is not a really poor player and it is very easy to prove this wrong. He contributes positively in most of the games he has played in.

Engel has played 10 games and we conceded 14 goals in them, with Engel getting 2 assists.

In Giles' first 10 games, we conceded 15 and he had 3 assists.

Obviously that was under Wilder, but then you've also got to account for the fact that Engel was moving to a new country and league.

Engel has been fine after a tricky start for him.
