Our fans singing national anthem at cardiff..

Fans filing down the steps near me were singing/shouting/pointing "long to reign over you." It was Anti-Racism Day in Cardiff. It might not be racism but singing Long To Reign Over You comes close to the bone, so to speak.
I wonder if those same fans would happily chant that to our players from non-English backgrounds?

I highly doubt it.

Footy. Fans from all clubs have always had a Neanderthal tribal element attached to them . Remember the venom we endured late 80s about abuse ?
I think it’s down to a faction that get together in a group and drink themselves senseless and lose all grasp of decency . Just little sad men who’ve never grown up seeking a bit of escapism .

With the some of the Geordies and Mackems it was about trying to demonise and wind up the opposition. The same with smoggies/pollution which Boro fans turned into a positive. Boro fans did go on about overweight Geordies and of course when Mike Ashley came along it fitted the bill. Its all a bit sad really. I prefer to be more positive.

Best ever turn around of a slur on a footy club was the Boro chant of small town in Europe on the back of "small town in Yorkshire "

It really is a bit of banter, winding people up isn't it?
They sing all their Welsh hymns and fair play to them, but if you are getting wound up by any of this then...
...relax.
It is all a lot less sinister than singing about underpants, child abusers, air crashes, stadium fires, stadium crushes or riots.

Struck me as odd...almost irrelevant ..we're boro fans and that's that
Seems weird to enter into the whole English and Wales thing...if there even is a thing
I'll be honest it was a bit embarrassing I thought...almost 1980s again

was a bit cringe like

I always get the impression Cardiff fans treat every game as a Wales vs England game though ? Apart from Swansea…..

Their fans sang 'Men of Harlech' at the Riverside. Jerusalem or 'Swing Low' more appropriate, or maybe a Zulu war dance.

For a moment I thought the queen might have died and the news had just broke. Given her recent hospital experience

i read somewhere , but probably not true that the Queens favourite practical joke is to pretend she has died during the night.

theres always the 3rd verse of course. "Rebellious Scots to crush"
Still there but not sung

Correct me if I am wrong but those are the words to the national anthem aren't they? Is being proud to be English really that bad? Is it because it has been hijacked by certain groups, or just that people are too easily offended these days? It seems that it's OK for the Welsh or Scottish to be patriotic, but not the English.

The song that i find most offensive is the "Randomtown is a s&*%hole, I wanna go home" one.

At Gateshead the other night, i heard a rather lovely take on it though, with Gateshead's own fans singing

"Gateshead's a s&%$hole - but I call it my home"
Can’t remember where I heard it but years ago I heard “it might be a sh1thol3 but it’s nicer than yours” being sang back.
