One of those games…

I could see what we were trying to do first half, keep the ball and dominate possession, but it passing wasnt good enough and to many forward players were isolated.

Game was decided by the penalty and red card. Both were marginal.
You forgot the sitter they missed as well. They could and probably should have been 2 nill up at half-time. Can't understand why we played such a high line against Stewart either seemed a really bad tatic.

I think you have to play a high line if you want to play a pressing game, which we obviously do by default.

Well it played straight into their hands. Stewart had a field day with the space behind.

Not a fan of the highline and using the offside trap as frequently as we did. To me it's cheating as a defender its the sort of defending Liverpool are doing so poorly at the moment.

I think that carrick obviously favours a high line, enabling the team to press better and its worked far more than not so far, but Sunderland had a lot of movement between their front three and we didn't have much joy in cutting balls into them out.

We played too much of the game running back towards our own goal and it was this that cost us the red card and pen - Fry should never have been in that situation.

The obvious answer is that we sit off and let them come onto us, but that's not the way carrick wants to play, so I can't see any change and to be fair its only one game.

Seen it again and the foul is outside the box, Stewart is being held back but waits till he's in the box before he goes down - interestingly although he's being held back he dives forward when going down.

It was a red car for sure - but not a penalty.

However we played gash all game, created nothing, lacked intensity and Sunderland looked more up for it. We got what we deserved - nothing. IMHO we need more options in midfield, if you play crooks up top who can you bring on when you want to change it? Mowatt? Enough said.
