If it was in midfield fair enough but this is on the edge of the penalty area so you need to tackle. In that photo where is there player and if you run it on McNair’s foot would be on the ground by the time he KICKED THE BALL!

where is there player

Their player is hidden behind Morsy but is less than a yard from McNair's flying leap.

There is another picture from the front which appears to show McNair making contact with their players ankle (but it could be perspective).

They are close enough to merit it being a red card for dangerous play. I will be amazed if the appeal is successful (and would be very interested as to what the red was actually given for (in the ref's report)).
