NYC in March?

Went back in 2006 around mid march. First day was warm, next 3 days were freezing cold, then the day we left it was 18 degrees

Depends do you like being cold ???

🥶

Not particularly! Wife s dead keen but I think she’s letting her heart rule her head! It’s the kind of holiday where we’d like to do a lot of exploring on foot, and I’m worried that the weather could scupper that

Easter is at the end of March. It will be really expensive and the weather could be anything from 0F to 70F.

Probably better to wait until May and the Memorial week.

Firstly it depends on the cost. I got a ridiculous deal for two adults and two kids for the Feb 24 half term (5 nights, 5 star hotel) for £1800. It was too cheap to turn down.

The reality is that you can't really plan for it. The weather around those times can be really mixed and absolutely can be bitterly cold but also not so bad with just a little rain.

If the cost for the trip is largely the same as waiting until the spring / summer then it might be best to just wait. Otherwise make a plan A, B & C to cover for the fact its baltic 😂

NYC really is a special place. It's always going to be what you make of it 👍🏻

It's March. Just like here it could still be wintery or breaking into spring, except their variations are more extreme than here.

Cold weather would equal good for me in NYC.

I remember going in October, straight out the airport and I’ve never felt humidity hit me so hard as I did that night. It was horrendous.

Next day, it was like waking up in a different country. No humidity whatsoever and was very breezy.

Sorry I was being a little flippant there but the reality from feb to march is generally New York’s harshest winter period.

As one year I was over in early march and it was minus 20 you could feel your face freeze after a few mins due to the exposure. This was during the freak winter year.

But as others have said it could also be mild but generally it is more likely to be cold and wet with a possibility of being freezing.

April may or September October is generally best weather.

With cold being v cold and the summer months being 100 plus.

I’m back out there in a few weeks Great city though you’ll enjoy it regardless just pack accordingly you’ll be fine.

Just pack for both very cold and warm (ish).

I was there last in March and was in a puffer jacket and hat one day and getting a T-shirt tan the next.

I’ve been in early March before when it’s been -12c.

I once went in late August. It was 30c, which was minging and not something I’d want to repeat.
Subway platforms 🤮

I don’t mind the cold generally, but I do get wound up with the instant stripping off a coat, hat, scarf gloves etc. the second you enter a building as they do tend to crank the heating right up.
Although you can flip that on its head in the summer the way they set the AC.

My favourite time to go weather wise, is around mid October. Averages about 18c and is usually quite dry.

When it's cold, it really is COLD. Brits always reckon they can handle it, but only the ones who live at the top of the Cairngorms really can.

The wind chill off the harbour, and the wind blowing down the avenues make it pretty hard to bear. You spend an inordinate amount of time stripping off coats and hats and gloves at warm up stops in coffee shops, then putting it all back on again.

I met some English girls on an Easter shopping trip a few years ago - high heeled sandals don't work in 2 feet of snow. They spent most of their money on thermal underwear and coats and boots, not frocks and dresses. 😒

Took the family in late July (direct flight from Newcastle 👍).
The temperature hit 38 at the peak, which was hot but manageable.
But the temperature inside the subway stations was unbelievable.God only knows what the temperature was. Thankfully the trains had Aircon.

And….at the time of year you just get extremes of whatever the weather is, if it rains it is normally torrential and rains all day 🤷‍♂️ If you get decent sunshine it can be nice.
Chances are it’ll be either 1foot of snow or lovely and warm sun.
Toss a coin in march

Yes when it rains it really rains.

Travelled there a lot in 2000s on business. You can never really plan. Just take a mixture of clothes with you as some have said before it’s a wonderful place. I miss it immensely.

December 17th Complete whiteout, -10C city shutdown. Winds howling down the ‘concrete’ canyons’
August same year, leaving the hotel air-con, into the streets hit physically by the humidity.
Walk a few minutes…dripping. 4 T shirt a day stuff. But it’s NYC. Onward.

My brother visited us in March one year. Three feet of snow put paid to their scheduled return flight.

Went at Easter a couple of years ago and it was freezing for the first couple of days the red hot 🤷‍♂️. Issue seems to be the sun doesn’t get to street level cos of the high buildings.
