Novavax vaccine to be made on Teesside

FujiFilm Diosynth the place is called, my company did some work there a couple of years back and they actually paid the bill on time, in full, and with zero messing about, which in construction is a rarity. Glady work for them again!

They needed extra info from me relating to this expansion not long ago (got the picture quite quickly of what it was for/ about), so I acted on it quickly, bumped them up the list, if you will. If everyone along the chain is doing that, then it just shows how much quicker things can be done, and I assume that's the same for the vaccine manufacture, testing and approval. If people work together and not against each other, things go much smoother (and faster).

Loads of construction is contracts and people fighting, raising claims, counter claims, chasing money etc, all the way through the works, it does nobody any favours and then this compounds with the next tender bids and programming, it's why projects end up taking longer and longer, when they should be getting shorter and shorter. I would bet this is very similar to manufacturing and healthcare.

The contractual fight looks like how the EU/ AZ situation is going, it will be a mess, they need to get that sorted out. The strange this is, that may get bailed out by Germany misinterpreting the data for the over 65's, so they may just agree a scaled down order. That would be silly mind, they need to get round a table (with the UK gov as well) and bottom it out, and Germany need to rescind their over 65's comment about AZ.

I’ve worked in construction for nearly 40 years and you must remember that you only ever hear about the bad jobs, the vast, vast majority of construction work proceeds very smoothly and amicably with very satisfied clients and satisfied contractors.
The main problem is that at 2% margin contractors cannot afford for anything to go wrong and in the background of clients there are beancounters who know nothing about the industry who are setting random targets (5%, 10%, think of a number) for budget holders to save money. This can result in an underfunded project from the outset and everything else follows. We often have the wrong people in key positions unfortunately.
Its a complex problem which will probably never be resolved.
I think the vaccine problem is a different one though.

Smooth from the clients, main contractor or sub-contractors point of view? :ROFLMAO:
Jobs go "smooth" as they're dragged out, people are scared of damages so inflate programs, I've worked on so many highways schemes I've forgot them all and each one is pain. Nothing compared to Rail though, with the Network Rail red tape.

You're right about the margins though, and the beancounters or QS's. Some are on Highways contracts on 0% and just bully subbies to get their profit. It would be better going back to letting people crack on, with ambitious programs and a decent profit.

Back on the topic of vaccines though, or manufacture, we've proven there's massive scope to reduce timescales, the next thing is getting the testing time down in emergency scenarios. Maybe even allow people to take lesser tested vaccines on a "no risk" basis. It doesn't make sense to me to look for a 1 in 10,000 problem, and wait for it, when the people is trying to keep alive are at 1 in 10 risk.

Yeah I've been keeping a close eye on how the spell 'Teesside' on the news ticker, so far its been OK (damn - they will be spelling Middlesborough correct next).
That’s good but the next person who says “made IN Teesside” I’m going to put the telly in. It was that Geordie gobsch1te Carol Malone last night.🤬
