Not flying to Australia

Amazing the lengths some people will go to to try and promote themselves as human beings.

They gonna spend 4 months getting home as well?? Must be nice to be able to take 8 months off work to attend a wedding.

What a load of bollox! I bet they have 3 cars between them. Maybe more.

When they get to the land of Oz they’re taking the bus, probably diesel. Do they wear plastic shoes and have the odd plastic bag for their luggage? I know we shouldn’t mock the effort but how much was done to get the media involved?

People try to do something to raise awareness - saving money and the planet
getting slagged off by FMTTMers - priceless...

I'm sure the thoughts of people on here will put them off this stupidity and make them return to being normal, sensible humans, who don't give a toss about the planet or want to do anything to make it last a bit longer. What silly people they are for even considering something like this.

I’m not devaluing their effort but I still think it’s a media driven opportunity not necessarily a spontaneous event just because of the wedding. Ok they’ve gone to great lengths to promote the effort almost like an activist hard at work with their paid partizan audience.

So they took 4 months to get to Oz, and took other forms of transportation but not once did they go completely organic or the Captain Cook way and sail, which is in my opinion is the real travel alternative of “saving the earth”.

I’m wondering if the parents actually got permission to take their kid out of school for 4 months? I thought in the UK you could only take your kid out of school for exceptional purposes? Also it’s pretty selfish imo to take your kid out of school just for a damn wedding.

I’m also very driven by methods to make the earth more organic, sustainable and cleaner but as we all know it’s difficult .At the same time I’m not going to announce to the world that I’m cleaning the local beach of plastic more or less everyday or limiting my vehicle drive days, or conserving energy by switching off lights or using solar, or walking to the shops. These people who want media attention just because they think they’ve earned it are just part of the problem. End of rant.

How well do you know them to come to your conclusion?

Their media driven opportunistic life style has been a bit rubbish for over 20 years.
They stopped flying in 2002

What school kid?

To be honest that sounds like a quality trip. I'd love to have the free time to do something similar. Good for them 👏

My favourite TV programmes (even still) are Michael Palin's Around the world in 80 days, and Pole to Pole, and this family's trip seems to be something similar.

Of course, but they just wanted to take the trip didn’t they.

Everything else about it is just so they can laud over their pals what wonderful human beings they are. 24,000 miles via bus/boat probably has a bit of a carbon footprint as well.

In my opinion, it’s a load of self-promoting nonsense and we shouldn’t encourage it. We should encourage people doing stuff that can inspire other people on a day to day level. Who else is gonna be able to afford the time/money to emulate this? Ian Wright maybe.

Just my opinion, disagree if you like.

Crikey - what a way to run your life.
Looking at a story of a few paragraphs and making all sorts of assumptions on some fellow human beings.

Nice

Oh I’m sure they’re nice people. There are loads of nice people who love a bit of self-indulgent codswallop. Most people are heavily nuanced.
