I agree with that until the last bit. Money that the country borrows from itself doesn't have to be payed back. The UK has been in debt more or less continuously for hundreds of years. During my working life I never felt that I was paying back WW2 debts and in the same way, my children don't see the debts accumulated in my time as a millstone around their necks.HS2 will go ahead. Money is not a problem these days. The pandemic has taken care of that.
If we need money these days, the government either print it or borrow it. It does not matter a jot , because future generations are saddled with mountains of debt. This is now a fact of life.
