Norwich v Boro play off final

Bamford could hardly run if I recall correctly, strange that someone with an eye for detail like Aitor played him ahead of Kike? Mind you he was a stubborn sod, playing Whitehead at right back rather than Fredericks cost us at least one goal.
Can sort of see why he did though. Kike plays and misses a couple of sitters (very feasible) and all of a sudden its "'Oway Aitor, Bamford with one leg woulda scored that!".

Kiké should have started for Bamford, it was like playing with 10 men because PB was clearly struggling from the start.

Hard not to agree with that - quite a similar situation to Rav in the FA Cup Final. Norwich were very good that day regardless of our mistakes or even the way we played. I remember Howson having a blinder.

Yes never seen such a miserable bunch that was just odd wasn’t it not even smiling were they.
The part where we walked I think under a bridge or tunnel near the first tube station, I expected a lot of stick, but they were glum and we were singing. Sheep shaggers, never happy 🙄

For the aforementioned reason I was feeling pretty grumpy all day. I'd decided anyway that even if we won I wasn't going to hang around for the presentation as it's ridiculous that you can get a trophy for finishing fourth. The match itself didn't help the mood. I was in the now-demolished Bree Louise in Euston by 17:20 and that was the best part of the day.
I thought we might have screwed his career, playing him so obviously crocked. Fortunately for him and Leeds... :)
No idea how that quote happened Capy!

It’s a good thing Ayala went on to have a very good season afterwards because I watched this back a couple weeks ago and his error for the first goal is almost unforgivable.

Was a very good day until then 😭
We lost that game because of karanka and his lack of management of Ryan fredericks who Was a brilliant attacking right back and tenacious defender
Fell out with him at Fulham game and it cost us dearly
He played that past it old midfielder at right back and the defence got slaughtered by Norwich that day
I never forgave karanka for that

I had tickets for the Foo Fighters at the Stadium of Sh**e that day. Went early so we could watch the match beforehand.

the experience of sitting through the game in a pub in the centre of Sunderland does not rank highly in my list of most enjoyable experiences 😕

Whitehead playing what must have been his debut at RB against a tricky winger. Genius from Karanka. Along with Bamford being a passenger.

I can also echo the comments about the Norwich fans appearing to be somewhat subdued and probably resigned to imminent failure in the Prem. On our way back to the car we didn't encounter any that were celebrating.

The atmosphere leaving the ground was odd, Norwich fans looked like they’d been relegated and it was us that were singing like we’d won.

not how i recall leaving the ground then sitting in the coach park for over an hour .. felt like longest journey home ever

Totally agree, we beat Norwich home and away that season and I think we were a more enjoyable side that season than the one after.
The match at Norwich was a complete fluke. Boro got an early goal, an og I think, then defended for 85 minutes, completely overrun for nearly all the match. That wasn't long before the playoffs final. Norwich went into the playoffs final knowing that Boro would be ultra defensive, and if they could score they'd win. As it was Boro presented them with an early goal and Boro never looked like scoring once, let alone twice. Norwich cruised the second half. It was like a training game.

My belief in Karanka disappeared that day. Picking a defensive team to play defensive football trying not to lose a playoff game was unforgiveable. Was he trying to win it on penalties? He should have been sacked after the match. It would have saved a lot of time, and a half competent manager would have got that squad promoted the following season anyway.

The Bree Louise has gone? Aaarghhh!

Was interviewed by Clem and made it on the bbc. Amazing build up but fell flat as a pancake; beaten by the better team on the day but we were much the better team that season. Agree on the Vossen strike; that goes in and it's a completely different game.
Absolutely worldie if that goes in.

He played exactly the same side as we'd been playing in the run in, including the play offs with the exception of Bamford replacing Kike, and Kalas being unavailable. Tomlin, Adomah, Vossen, Bamford all playing. Why was that expecially defensive? I think we were just rubbish that day, it wasn't by design.
