No Travelling Barmy Army at the Ashes this Winter

I think the barmy army is very much a “for profit” organisation, these days.

We booked it all ourselves much cheaper to Aus and SA.

I even got a free ticket for me and the lad off an Aussie after a day at the SCG. He just said, “we’re not going to make it tomorrow, you boys have them”

can you expand on that ARATC, id like to know some of your experiences and differentials, Thanks in advance.
Basically we booked our own accommodation and flights but if we had booked through them it was massively more expensive. Tickets they charged us if I remember rightly about £50 a day. Lads we met who bought their own were paying 12 Aus dollars. Plus if the game goes to to a fifth day the Aussies have what's called a dollar aday where that's all you pay and it goes to charity. We lost out big style that day. Only the first day of one of the games was sold out so check the gates on what tests you are going to. We went to Brisbane and Adelaide.
That was the last time we got tickets off them. When we went to Windies and Sri Lanka we just bought our tickets at ground no problems.

If David Mills comes on this thread he can give you exact figures as he blood our tour.

It’s the same with any organised tour to a sports event. Going to the Olympics through packages is always massively more expensive than doing it independently. You pay for the hassle not to have to get tickets yourself and book accommodation. I don’t know any sports tour be it RWC, Athletics, Olympics, cricket where the package is cheaper than doing it independently and hence I always do it myself. Besides you build in that flexibility to go and stay where you want. The Barmy Army hotels were sometimes in odd locations or a bit run down from what I remember talking with mates who were with them.
