No Striker this window

Looking at the gazette and echo Neil seems resigned to not bringing in a striker this window. Unless that’s just a smokescreen it is a bit disappointing yet understandable.

I wonder if that means we won’t be bringing anyone in at all?

It's mistake for me, a decent striker would pretty much guarantee us a shot at the lottery of the play offs. I assume money is too tight to do anything without exits.

I agree it could be the difference - maybe money is so tight they are gambling that we can limp into the play offs with what we’ve got OR maybe Neil is just getting this sort of message out there for any agents ears.

What is the direct quote? I wonder if everything is centered around the rumoured interest in/departure of Britt.

I would hope we could replace his input for about £1-£2 million or less, and probably a quarter of his wage.

The money we spent on Akpom and Morsy still puzzles me, neither look like world beaters or significantly better than what we had?

Ho hum, in Warnock we trust💪

It will all depend on whether Assombalonga leaves. Hopefullythere's something in the rumours with him going to Turkey. If we can't shift him then we won't be able to bring anyone in anyway.

I was expecting more from Morsy, Wigan's player of year wasn't he? Still I think he's been ok, didn't cost the earth and we did need another in that position. So that makes sense.

Akpom is a head scratcher though. Warnock said he was his number 1 target (I know he says a lot of things, so could just be trying to boost the lad) but doesn't strike me as a Warnock player and doesn't offer anything massively different from what we had.

I wonder if one eye is on the season being postponed??

The other thing is, as the dust settles towards the end of the window -could we pick up unsigned players at a cheaper rate/

Money is tight. I really do not care if we do not bring another striker in this window. We need a pacy winger/ball carrier to try to supply the ones we have. I am not enamoured with our strikers, but until we create more with better chances or utilise a creative talent to provide more space and time for existing strikers, i do not see the point. Strikers need players to create, we lack that quality more and need to fix that first. We have to do it in stages, buying another striker will just highlight the same long standing deficiencies imho.

It's not as if our current strikers are missing tens of chances, we create may be one or two good chances per game another two or three decent chances and maybe half a dozen half chances. A top striker would struggle to get one in three with that sort of service. We need to create more chances that would get our own strikers notching.

Not sure about Morsy. He is a free kick waiting to happen and distribution is average. He wouldn't be in my 11 if everyone is fit

A better striker would create more chances off their own back as well.

Agree to a point and if it's one or the other I'll take the winger, absolutely.

But you still need someone to hold the ball up and for your creative players to play off. Someone like that would still definitely improve us and help the likes of Tav, Watmore and Johnson be more effective.

At the end of the day it's January so I suspect we'll take what we can get (which will probably be nothing!).

We had that chance (striker wise) and the club brought in Akpomb. I doubt Warnock had heard of him till he was asked to look at some footage by the recruitment team. We had the chance to try to bring in a hold up type player but as Moore went elsewhere we gambled on Akpomb (more in hope and desperation) imho. There is no way Akpomb was first choice, that was Moore, he was clearly first choice.

yep think so. Shame as he'd have been good for us I think. Chose to go and play for a far inferior manager though.

I agree we need creativity in the final third, ideally with pace on the flanks, but a better finisher would have enough extra goals this season to get us in the play offs. Our strikers miss very good chances and create nothing for themselves at all.
In short we need both to progress and it depends who is available when at what price.
