No Rashford in England squad

Big call from Gareth. No doubt that on his day he's a world-class forward and has proven it for England. He's been pants this season, mind.

I think it is more his attitude...i think there has been petulance behind the scenes from him and Southgate has been made aware but then Ten Haag throws almost all his players under the bus....at various points....either Rashford goes or Ten Haag does....
I cant see them both staying at Manure and both could even leave!

It seems everyone has an attitude problem at Man U tho
With the exception of
Ten Haag
Hmmmmm

It's a shame Southgate didn't back himself to get him playing. England is well stocked with forwards but Rashford's pace and explosiveness aren't really matched by anyone, even Saka. Maybe Gordon is similar, but he's not currently fit either.

Give Southgate his due, he’s made some bold decisions and gone mainly for players in form. There’s only the Shaw gamble but that is understandable.

I do think Gordon is a good replacement for Rashford....even though I think Southgate would've gotten a lot out of Rashford in a way that Ten Haag doesn't.....Gordon has a slight niggle but for me, he starts on the left. Bellingham down the middle and Saka on the right - we need pace...that's what hurts teams at this level - Bellinghams skill and sake and Gordon driving at teams....because our defence is a basket case of no form and players likely thrown together who aint played with each other previously....

Give Southgate his due ? bold decisions ?

So he finally picked players in form, it's not rocket science, he should as England Manager always pick players in form.

Rashford was no brainer (been sh*t all season), Henderson another poor season...

That's Sancho, isn't it?

Had he been picked, GS would have been roasted for "having favourites" etc...

I don't necessarily agree with that: class is permanent, form is temporary, and if you want to pick the best team for the next game, pick the class act, not the flavour of the month.

However, do I believe Rashford has that much class and quality above his peers that he should be picked despite his form this season? No; fortunately the attacking positions are areas where England are strong.

This is probably the right decision.

I think it’s a good decision, he’s out of form and would only have been taken as a sub. It’s unlikely he’d play himself into any sort of form from sub appearances so better to take an in form player as a potential impact sub.

You don't have to go back far to find England managers who allowed the media to pick the England squad and team. A lot easier for him to pick names rather than form players, so he gets a thumbs up from me.

how can we leave foden out, hes been best forward in the league hasnt he? i'd play foden at no10 and have bellingham more involved in the middle with rice. kane up front with saka and maybe gordon or give eze a try. probably play grealish and have foden out of position on either wing. bellingham at 10 and mainoo or gallager in the middle.

I'd just go with this, assuming all are fit. Maybe swap Grealish for Gordon but otherwise, I think the rest of that midfield are impossible to not play that way.

----------------- Pickford --------------
Walker --- Stones -- Maguire -- Shaw
-------- Rice --------- Bellingham -----
Saka ---------- Foden -------- Grealish
----------------- Kane ------------------

Rashford is a product of his environment...... He lives on easy street playing for Man Yoo..... He is one of many overpaid and over hyped footballers stealing a living by turning up once in every four or five matches with a half decent performance. He is sleepwalking through his career. The culture at Man Yoo is completely broken - they are miles behind City, Liverpool and Arsenal. Rashford would not get a game for those teams if he turned out like he has for Man Yoo this season. You have to question his appetite/hunger to win and pay for a successful team....... It just looks like..... Long contracts and big money equals little effort.....

He needs to move before it's too late.....

But he probably won't move because he doesn't have the aptitude to be a winner and world class player......

He should look across the city and see how hard the millionaires at Man city work and how they want to strive to better themselves every year.....

He should also look at Harry Kane as an example....a proper player with a proper attitude who hasn't played in a title winning team..... He's gone abroad wanting to better himself!

Southgate has this one right for me!
