No Ayling and Greenwood v dirties so what do we go with

I'd definitely go with wing-backs for this one.

If Bangura is deemed fit enough I'd go with Jones and Bangura as the wing-backs, with Engel playing LCB.

Otherwise I'd go with Jones and Engel as wing-backs and Howson RCB.

The Ref is from Hartlepool.

I think he’s a decent outlet, got a good engine, a bit of pace and carries the ball well but I just don’t think his close control and short passing is good enough for a Carrick team.
Mental that you recognise this but you think Engel is class. 🤣

I dare you to check his passing stats (both overall and short) versus Engel's since you are so keen and telling us about Engel being statistically great. I'm pre-empting a comment about Dijksteel's small sample size so extend Dijksteel's back over last season as well to widen it.

So Engel is at 79 this season.
Dijksteel is at 85 from 7 starts. Last season 81 from 10 and the previous 79 from 34.

However Dijksteel has 4 career assists and no goals. Averages 1.4 tackles, 1 interception, 1.3 clearances, 0.4 blocks, 0.4 key passes per game.

Engel has 4 assists and 2 goals this season. Averages 1.9 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 0.3 blocks and 0.8 key passes per game.
Whoscored for the data

Your main point was about Dijksteels short passing which is statistically superior to Engel's.

I did respond to your stats on thomas on the thread about maddo picking on engel. Not sure if you saw it or not.

To be fair the differences are less than 1 in 20 passes so I don’t think it really makes that much difference and the same when they have both played a full season.

So is Engel's short passing not good enough for a Carrick team too?

I believe carrick has seen enough already
This must be derived from Carrick’s viewing of Dijksteel from the practice field then as his actual game minutes since recovering from his injury have hardly warranted a sample.

Ok so not wanting to turn this thread further into a Engel thread but my original comment said close control and short passing. Maybe I should have mentioned his lapses in concentration, weakness in the air etc. Engel has higher stats for just about everything else and all of these factors are taken into account when carrick is picking a team. One that has consistently included Engel and not dijksteel.

Quite probably and I wouldn’t expect it not to.

I think he just plays McNair right back. Paddy obvs only playing when really needed. Rest of team the same I think.

Might go 3 at the back with Jones/Engel wingback. I think that makes most sense if we have 3 CBs fit and no RB

What do Leeds go for with us? start from there, then decide line up. They seem to me to depend on their wingers and seem to favour 4-2-3-1.
The benefits of this are it provides a central midfield three that can overload a midfield two.
The disadvantage is
the single centre-forward can be isolated. They are always underloaded against opposing centre-backs, and the use of a double pivot means it can take longer for others to push forward and support the attack...I Googled that 😳
So baring this in mind.....I
have no idea, but think others on here might.
