Mental that you recognise this but you think Engel is class.I think he’s a decent outlet, got a good engine, a bit of pace and carries the ball well but I just don’t think his close control and short passing is good enough for a Carrick team.

I dare you to check his passing stats (both overall and short) versus Engel's since you are so keen and telling us about Engel being statistically great. I'm pre-empting a comment about Dijksteel's small sample size so extend Dijksteel's back over last season as well to widen it.
Your main point was about Dijksteels short passing which is statistically superior to Engel's.So Engel is at 79 this season.
Dijksteel is at 85 from 7 starts. Last season 81 from 10 and the previous 79 from 34.
However Dijksteel has 4 career assists and no goals. Averages 1.4 tackles, 1 interception, 1.3 clearances, 0.4 blocks, 0.4 key passes per game.
Engel has 4 assists and 2 goals this season. Averages 1.9 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.8 clearances, 0.3 blocks and 0.8 key passes per game.
Whoscored for the data
I did respond to your stats on thomas on the thread about maddo picking on engel. Not sure if you saw it or not.Your main point was about Dijksteels short passing which is statistically superior to Engel's.
To be fair the differences are less than 1 in 20 passes so I don’t think it really makes that much difference and the same when they have both played a full season.Your main point was about Dijksteels short passing which is statistically superior to Engel's.
So is Engel's short passing not good enough for a Carrick team too?To be fair the differences are less than 1 in 20 passes so I don’t think it really makes that much difference and the same when they have both played a full season.
This must be derived from Carrick’s viewing of Dijksteel from the practice field then as his actual game minutes since recovering from his injury have hardly warranted a sample.I believe carrick has seen enough already
Ok so not wanting to turn this thread further into a Engel thread but my original comment said close control and short passing. Maybe I should have mentioned his lapses in concentration, weakness in the air etc. Engel has higher stats for just about everything else and all of these factors are taken into account when carrick is picking a team. One that has consistently included Engel and not dijksteel. So is Engel's short passing not good enough for a Carrick team too?
Quite probably and I wouldn’t expect it not to.This must be derived from Carrick’s viewing of Dijksteel from the practice field then as his actual game minutes since recovering from his injury have hardly warranted a sample.
He should be favouring us then because we have helped out Hartlepool numerous times over the years with players a plentyThe Ref is from Hartlepool.

Or jones and Engel (or bangara) WBs and paddy Rav and Clarke keeping howson in midfield where we need him!If McNair is fit to start, then it's definitely going to be Van den Berg at right back.
Might go 3 at the back with Jones/Engel wingback. I think that makes most sense if we have 3 CBs fit and no RBI think he just plays McNair right back. Paddy obvs only playing when really needed. Rest of team the same I think.
