I have just found out the sad news that Nigel Gibb a Boro superfan has passed after a long illness.
Nigel from Yarm had spent the last 5 years of his life in a care home with dementia .
Nigel hadn't got any remaining family in this country but im sure he has a lot of friends on this message board who will be deeply saddend by this news.

RIP Nigel

How very sad. Nigel was such a fixture home and away. A lovely guy with so much Boro knowledge. He used to keep stats on all our matches, in fact he put together little booklets around some of our rivalries - ie Boro v Man City - a full record between the two sides. But every game he would record the teams and other match details in a little hard backed book.
His 1000th away match at Leicester City was quite the occasion - a midweek match with a very heavy evening snowfall, meaning it was actually very hard for Leicester fans to get to the match let alone Boro. The two clubs had come together to celebrate Nigel's achievement with big posters on the walls in the away end. He told me he recorded every away game keeping the ticket and the programme so it was easy to work out when he had reached 1000. He would have been to far more home games than that. But you don't collect ticket stubs just season tickets. I can only think of one person still going to games that might have amassed as many Boro games as Nigel. Possibly.
Nigel was a lovely guy, a real gentleman in every sense. He truly was a super fan also in every sense.
RIP

Very sad to hear this - I knew Nigel and had travelled to a few away games with him. I used to work with one of his long time travelling companions and he had told me that Nigel had not recognised him when he had visited him recently. Such a horrible condition.

He had an unbroken run of Boro matches that went on for so many years.

RIP Nigel #UTB

Never met Nigel but remember him from the many contributions he made to Tim Lloyd‘s Boro Mailing list. I wonder whether Rob, or someone that knew Nigel, could arrange for his name to be entered into the Book of Remembrance at the Riverside. I arranged for Tim to be included just after he’d passed away at such a young age. May he rest in peace.

I don't think I ever spoke to him but you used to see him all over. I think he had a website dedicated to Boro stuff at one time. Smashing bloke by all accounts and sad to hear of his passing.

Yes dementia is a horrible disease .
Was it Lennie who visited him.
My girlfriend worked in the Carehome he was in thats how i found out .We made him a memory board for his room and i gave him a few of my Boro tops that he wore . A lot of his memorobilla was thrown out of his house which was sold to pay for his care .
Very sad to die alone with no family around him

Yes, Lenny was my old boss and went to every game with Nige.

Was chatting to Lenny last night and passed the news on to him this morning.

I was on there, so it might have been via that that I remember him / met him

I knew Nigel as he lived on the same Estate as myself. Over the last few Years I had seen him in the Care Home that he was living in, and I was shocked to see that he no longer remembered me.

Very sad. Knew him through another sadly missed Boro fan Robbo. Used to often join us for a prematch drink. Liked his red wine as I remember. RIP
Is that Robbo who always used to wear the paint covered hat? I’d always see him at away games and in Northallerton if it’s the same one, I never knew he passed.
