NHS pay rise 1%

At least they got a clap and a pay rise unlike the millions who are now on the dole due to the lockdown

Not seen this reported anywhere but it would come as no surprise. For ten years government has focussed support on growing private enterprise to the detriment of the public services.

Resetting the balance by rewarding our NHS, and so doing the right thing, was never likely.

Normal Tory service resumed, will sneak under the radar with the budget and success of the vaccine.

Unions will go nuts they wanted 12%

does seem a little unfair I think 5% would be acceptable at this point

If it wasn't obvious already the Conservatives don't value public services, which isn't a surprise given they fundamentally support free markets and capitalist ideals.

This is always a worrying starting point for the North East, given that we rely so heavily on the public sector for employment - more than probably anywhere else in the country.

Add to that frustration the appalling rise in MP's salaries and it all adds up to a low point in political confidence for me, red, blue, yellow or green.

Every time they post a pay "rise" they should also have to give the inflation rate, and then describe what this means, just incase some people don't understand it.

Then they should have to post a chart with the "rise" over the last 20 years, compared to inflation.

Then they should have to describe why these public sector staff, working their nuts off, even more so this year during a pandemic, keep on getting the actual value of their pay cut.

Another pi$$ take from the Tories.

Is that true? If so, have this idiotic shower have learnt nothing.

Starmer said it on the 10 o clock BBC news - that might be why it's not all over the news. I think there are a lot of spending cuts hidden in Rishi's red book.

We are going back to austerity it would appear, austerity and tax rises.
