Looks like he'll be heading back to his old club Santos for free at the end of the season. Can he really be counted as one of the greats considering he's Brazils top goal scorer? Can't help but think he didn't fulfil his potential, I don't think he can be mentioned in the same breath as Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romario etc

Or Pele, Garrincha, Gerson, Jairzinho etc.

He never should have left Barcelona. He's been either very unlucky with injuries or very unprofessional since signing for PSG. He started a maximum of 22 league games in his 6 years at PSG. He's not played (or achieved) enough to be considered at their level.

could have been one of the all time greats for me

think he should have stayed at barcelona with messi and suarez in hindsight - sensational front three is an understatement

Not a great for me; he's been Brazil's main man during an insipid period of failure by their standards. I think they've lifted 1 confederations cup in his time there.

That he's their top scorer reflects the number of games he's played. Generally more international are played now than in the past anyway, but I wonder if he's had as much competition for his place as past Brazilian forwards.

Can’t say he’s been the best Brazilian player in my lifetime. In my opinion Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Romario and Ronaldo all better. Certainly in European club football.

Not one of those players that will live long in the memory, apart from when comparing the fuss around transfers that future players generate.

He'll certainly have made himself and his team of agents very rich though.

I think of him more for being injury prone, having the world's lowest pain threshold and off the field antics before his footballing ability.

Ridiculously talented, but his mentality is what's let him down.

Moving club because he was more obsessed about individual accolades than winning with a team tells you everything.

That move to Paris was a massive mistake - wanted to be the main man, but in life you’ve got to be careful what you wish for sometimes. Treated like a prince in a totally uncompetitive league, your motivation goes, then your professionalism goes, then your body goes and before you know it, it’s all over.

I like Neymar, thought he was a fabulous player. In truth he could claim to be comfortably the 3rd best player in the world for a good few years behind Messi and Ronaldo.

Overall though yeah, he didn’t fulfil his massive potential.

He didn't even get to be the star at PSG. They signed Mbappe in the same month.

Remembered more for being injured on his sister's birthday, every year, than anything he's done on the pitch.

He left Barcelona to avoid being in Messi's shadow - thinking he'd potentially win the Ballon D'or....only for Messi to join him at PSG and win it himself.

I remember seemingly the whole of Brazil going into meltdown when he was injured in the 2014 World Cup.

Did he play in the thrashing by Germany?

Nah, he was out with that broken back thing. He was magical in that tournament as well, remember him just picking it up off the left back and torturing teams again and again.

I've never got the hype with him, summed him up not taking one of the penalties in the WC because he wanted the glory one at the end.
