Next England manager who do you want…

Hang on, this is all at least two or three years away, Carrick and even Howe wouldn’t have been an option three years ago so in three or more years time there could be loads of other options. Or equally Howe or Carrick could be nailed on. We’re getting way ahead of ourselves here .

Yeah, do you think?

I have a feeling he'll step down after the EUROs. Feels like the end of a cycle. Already feels like he's been manager for a hell of a good run for any boss, they don't often get 8 years or for internationals, more than three tournaments.

I think England fans will regret being so negative towards Southgate once he goes. The job he’s done is completely underestimated imo. He’s brought young players into the squad very early, integrated them and given them experience. Haven’t seen that before and I think it’s taken for granted.
Saying that, I think it will pay off and we’ll win the Euros this year.

Another vote for Potter.
Why? What has he achieved to suggest he can take on one of the most challenging roles (imo) in World football?

He has performed pretty well with lesser known teams, winning a cup in the Swedish league while on a tight budget. Shown promise with Swansea and Brighton, then failed miserably with Chelsea, while managing big stars on big money with lots of pressure attached to it.

I'd personally have no problem with Southgate staying on, but I'm a bit sick of the negativity surrounding him from so many England fans so I'd probably let him ride off in to the sunset whatever happens this summer.

Graham Potter seems the obvious answer, young-ish, English, still got an okay pedigree and out of work.
Agreed. Guaranteed whoever does come in will be heralded as something special and it all disintegrates in 12 months

Agreed I think we will Southgate will leave on a high but will get very little respect for it, then we will go back to having cliques and 2nd round penalty knockouts again

I'm less pessimistic.

I think the culture Southgate has created will continue and whoever follows will be able to implementation their methods without the cliques marring things or the pressure that the shirt brings.

Ideally they'll be a little more tactically astute that Southgate and, as they say in Australia, we'll find the perfect blend

Maybe, but I think culture building is massively under played. It’s difficult to build harder to maintain. I also feel Southgate’s tactical knowledge is massively downplayed. He couldn’t have the success he has had without being knowledgeable

If English, there's only one candidate and that's Potter.

Not Howe, he's massively overrated. He can't sort out a defence without blasting £100m's. And to win tournaments, you need a decent defence.

Howe will be sacked by Newcastle this year. He'll be lucky to see Xmas.

As much as I hate to say it I think Carrick would be a good choice.

You think back to the brilliant football we played under him last season, when we had the right players and then imagine how well he could get England playing, with some of the attacking talent he'd have at his disposal.

Southgate will certainly go this summer. I can't see an outcome where he doesn't.

If he wins, perfect time to leave, if he doesn't, plenty of outsiders will want him gone as they think we should have won the tournament.

The new man will probably be Lee Carsley from the u21's. That would be a very F.A type appointment, and imo makes sense. We need the continuity.
