Newcastle unattractive

Apparently no premier league clubs want to do business with them. I guess we’ll see because as we all know, money talks. Worst case scenario is that they’ll be paying well over the odds.

How many clubs do you know that live by principle? If they did you can bet it was because a focus group suggested it would increase merchandise sales.

When the time comes there'll be a feeding frenzy if Newcastle do have funds. But they're limited by FFP like everyone else so I doubt it will satisfy the Geordies. And prices aren't what they used to be.

Am I right in saying (I can't remember where I read it) that they can 'only' spend £180 million in the next 2 1/2 seasons to stay within FFP?

Unless there is an enormous increase in revenue, but the ''Ethiad sponsor us £500 million a year' defence is now ruled out isn't it?

Deals have to be at realistic market values?

If they want to be buying 'great' players £180 million might get you what, two or three?

Or if we're being hurtful, four and a half Joelinton's......

If the whole of the English league didnt trade with them then they would have to go for bosman deals for players or foreign buys
Not really sure why they wouldn't look abroad anyway. The best talent in this country plays for the top sides and are unlikely to leave to join a club sitting in the relegation zone. Some great deals to be found in Europe (at a fraction of the price, Varane v Maguire being a classic example!)

If Newcastle come in with a daft offer on a player... most clubs will sell - they may attempt to not trade with them, but in real life, money obviously talks

Yep, all correct.

And the hilarity is they’ll be going into transfer negotiations with the same naivety that they tried to hire a manager - or six - with.

It’ll be hilarious and such a mess. Read the gossip columns and they’re linked with every single player, but the only ones who’ll realistically go there are exactly the kind of players they don’t need - pure mercenaries.

Plus every club will charge a Newcastle premium on every transfer, and that’s spot on, they can only spend £200m in the next two windows for FFP - Villa spent £100m this summer and they’ve barely stood still.

I saw them linked with Frenkie de Jong, Hazard and Adrien Rabiot today - Rabiot is exactly the kind of player who’d go there and make a shower of it, the other two no way. Can’t wait to see how this ends.

They could have probably attracted Rabiot before to be fair! His best days are behind him and he's part of a shambolic Juventus team this year. That said, they wouldn't need to buy him a new kit 😂

Hazard increasingly seems finished at the top level as well (I assume Eden and not Thorgan?) No doubt he'd improve them and might fancy one last big pay day.

Frenkie de Jong is one of the top young talents in Europe, playing for one the biggest clubs and best young managers. He's going to be crucial for Netherlands going forward and I don't see him improving in the Newcastle squad.

If were Newcastle I'd be scouring Europe looking for young, talented players looking to make their first big move. They should be shopping in the same markets as Leipzig, Dortmund in my opinion. Players who have already moved to a top side will be very reluctant to go their I imagine.

I think that we will only be laughing at them for so long. So enjoy it!!

Unfortunately, money ultimately brings success, longer-term.

I wouldn't be so sure. 'Longer term' is the key, and its something I don't think a club like Newcastle has the luxury of. The geordies are notorious for turning on their managers and owners in relatively short order.

They turned on Bobby Robson after a 2-6 home defeat to Man Utd at the end of the 2003 season, as finishing 5th wasn't good enough for them.
They hounded out Souness after furious protests outside the ground.
Allardyce lasted four months into the 2007 season before he was hounded out with calls of 'you don't know what you're doing'. Newcastle were then relegated by his replacement.
Pardew got them to 5th, but again it wasn't good enough. He was hated from the off, and eventually hounded out. They even had a whole website set up dedicated to calling for his head!
McClaren was hated from off, never given a chance, and hounded out.
Steve Bruce another hated from the off, matched the best that Benítez could do, yet hounded out.

The point being, they've had some top managers in the past, some very experienced ones, but they always turn on them and often early into their managers tenure, they become vocal about it and demonstrate. They were demonstrating against the board and its managers before Ashley was ever on the scene, and have followed in the same vein ever since.

They'll turn on Howe, and his replacement, and the one after that. And when they've gone two or three seasons without winning sod all, they'll turn on their owners long before money buys them a trophy. Its the skunk mentality, thinking they're something special and everyone else just divvint understand. And one thing these Saudis won't stand for is hundreds of idiot football fans outside the stadium publicly denouncing them if it all goes t!ts up.

It'll end in tears for them. Tears of laughter for everyone else.

It's worth remembering they once thought Mike Ashley was their knight in shining armour too.
