What ever you’ve heard about us sports getting tickets for the NBA is as tough as it gets. Due to the fanatical support and the relatively small sized venues ( even MSG).Thanks for all these useful tips. My son is really into basketball but it looks like the season will be over (we're going late May, early June). Time to start some serious planning now..
Yes we do dollar a drink as wellLooping back on the tipping....20% is now "the norm" for average or above service here in Chicago when you pay a meal bill. For drinks at a bar you usually work on a dollar a drink. I would imagine the same in NYC.

I went to see the rangers once at Maddison Sq garden ( ice hockey) and I was stood picking up my pre booked tickets at the ticket office and these British tourists came in and asked if they had any tickets for the nicks sure said the ticket agent what month are you looking at. They wanted tickets for that night.
So good luck with that there’s also the nets as well at the Barclays centre in Brooklyn that is just over the bridge as well.
Tips should be viewed as an added tax on all services in the US. And price it in as such.Tipping in New York completely soured the experience of seeing this great city. It's easy to rack up a $200 for the cost of a meal with modest drinks for 2 or 3 people but the to add 15% say $30 takes the edge of the visit. It happens day in and day out, because as previously stated tips are part of the workers wage but when you analyse what the waiter does it's daylight robbery. They come to the table with a jug of iced water and menu, take your order and bring your food when ready. There maybe a revisit to ask "Is everything okay?" as you eat but this is standard process when eating in a restaurant anywhere in the world and a tip should be be for a service above and beyond "standard".

They are paid less than minimum wage, as tips are factored in (legally). You should view the tip as being a necessary tax.Tipping in New York completely soured the experience of seeing this great city. I was once in a bar & I asked for a can of beer. The Barman pointed over to the fridge & told me to help myself. I selected one, brought it back to my seat , without moving he gave me a fresh glass & I had to tip him !Tipping in New York completely soured the experience of seeing this great city.
