New Music 2021

Lula Wiles - "Oh My God"..................this is first class. As good as anything posted today.

At first pass, “Oh My God” from Lula Wiles’ new album Shame and Sedition might come across as a breakup song. Not the sad, heartbroken kind—more like the angry, ***ed-off, we-are-never-ever-getting-back-together kind. Spitting fire in second person, Isa Burke asks, “Do you think you would end up where you are? / Do you think you’re a god now, in your fancy cars? / Stepping over bodies, grinning like a movie star.”

But focus on that last chilling line, and you’ll find that “Oh My God” isn’t about a dirtbag ex experiencing a quarter-life crisis. Lula Wiles are actually addressing a much more dangerous dirtbag: Jeff Bezos. “What have you been doing since the world shut down?” they demand. “Counting all the cards you stole to build your house?”

One last song came to my attention after someone recommended the album on Facebook. Its rather good so couldn't leave it out.

One Thousand Motels are Rat Scabies & Chris Constantinou feat Sean Wheeler and the album is Get In Where You Fit In. Reviewed here https://maximumvolumemusic.com/revi...E91G0-3pQn-TCqdcb7NQwspq_hOYcbEemCNwhuwP3mCig The album is not what you expect from Rat Scabies & Chris Constantinou.

Jim McCulloch - Blackstick Boogie. From his new EP, released today. He of The Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits and Snowgoose etc. It's classed as an EP but it's 9 songs so that makes it an LP in my book! Anyway, it's absolutely fantastic, very 60's and not a weak link on it.

Right, this weeks new releases. A bit late as I was partaking in a drink or two last night. There is a lot to get through, lots of good stuff including some well established artist, so lets get cracking.

Good way to start as I saw them in a really enjoyable show at Ku Bar a couple of years ago. They were playing this during lockdown with T.W.P. Its good.

Sleeper - We Should Be Together

The Weddoes had recruited Sleeper guitarist Jon Stewart to tour with them and were playing this song. If I remember the story correctly, this was an old Stewart Sleeper song that never made it to record. Great song, that might never have seen the light of day but for Gedge.

Support to Sleeper at The Ku Bar were this lot. They are a really really good band. Catch them live if you can.

The Lottery Winners - Times Are Changing

Ive seen these a few times live and they are very good. They can certainly play. They have bags of personality live and the lead singer is very funny. It’s not the same craic either.

I had them in that classic indie pop/rock bracket, but actually they are a little more innovative than that.
