New Music 2021

This is damn good

Alan Vega - Filthy

'Alan Vega’s name is synonymous with unfettered, tireless creativity. Beginning in the late 1950s, when he was a fine art student at Brooklyn College, through his years playing in Suicide, and all the way up until his death in 2016, Vega was constantly creating. That process naturally led to a wealth of material that didn’t see the light of day immediately when it was recorded, which came to be known as the Vega Vault. Mutator is the first in a series of archival releases from the Vault that will come out on Sacred Bones Records. '

Black Midi - Chondromalacia Patella.............................................don't really get this band at all. Just a load of noise to me. Music press loves them.

They've been describes as a post punk, math rock, jazz fusion, experimental outfit...the name itself has a meaning:

"Black MIDI is a music genre consisting of compositions that use MIDI files to create a song or a remix containing a large number of notes, typically in the thousands, millions, billions, or even trillions."

They do cram an awful lot in and sometimes it becomes a wall of sound to me as well, but at other times I sort of get it - whatever that 'it' might be - enjoyed parts of this but the end was that wall of sound I spoke of. Different for sure, but as you say the music press seem to have a crush on them just now...until the next 'thing' comes along.

Right, this weeks new releases. A bit late as I was partaking in a drink or two last night. There is a lot to get through, lots of good stuff including some well established artist, so lets get cracking.

Good way to start as I saw them in a really enjoyable show at Ku Bar a couple of years ago. They were playing this during lockdown with T.W.P. Its good.

Sleeper - We Should Be Together

Now a band you should sell your house to see live. Its a total blast live and I love them to bits. They were supposed to have a new album out over a year ago but nothing yet. I pray for the day when the Blaggamuffin books them for Twisterella or The Westgarth. Ah! 67 years old and I still have dreams.

Dingus Khan - Dustbin Gravy
