Never seen a keeper flat footed so many times

The amount of times Zack Steffen stands motionless as the ball flys past him is staggering. If I could be bothered I would make a montage of the goals we've conceded so far this season and you'd see an amazing amount where he stands rigid as if to say 'that was unsaveable ,theres no point diving'.

Sunderlands second today was always going in at the near post. Everyone could see it was , as the attack developed. Steffen stood at the near post but failed to make any move whatsover towards the ball. Even the commentator said 'The Keeper HAS to anticipate the ball is going there'. I wouldn't mind but this has happened loads of times already this season.

The biggest cliche in football when talking about Keepers is 'He's a great shot stopper'. Well in our case I genuinely think ours is a rubbish shot stopper. He's been beaten many times this season from out of the box and he seems to react very slowly to shots. I think the fact that he's a decent 'sweeper keeper' papers over the cracks that he's not actually very good at saving goals. Call me old fashioned but I would far rather have a guy who can stop the ball from going in the net than a keeper who sprays 30 or 40 yard passes but then fails to block a shot straight at him.

In my entire 33+ years supporting the club I can only really think of Given (and to a lesser extent Randolph) who was unanimously appreciated by the fanbase. Every other keeper has split opinion, some more than others. It’s a tough gig I’d wish on no one.

When? I don't remember many. Not saying you're necessarily wrong, but nothing comes to mind apart from Millwall away

Why we talking keepers how good was the Mackems keepers kit of all green - no fancy designs or stripes ... just grass green ... very retro

he is useless !

We didn't lose yesterday because of Stefan, our defence hasn't been great since Carrick arrived, but usually we have been able to compensate going forward. Yesterday due to the sending off and their nullifying Giles we offered little in response, but arguably we had chances to score at least one or two.

The 'worst' keeper we had for doing this was our best keeper, Schwarzer, It's a pretty shoddy criticism to be honest. the best keepers know they're not getting it rather than a flailing dive.

I disagree the ball was hit hard through a group of players in front of the keeper from close range…. He can’t move till he see’s it and by that point never had time to react.

If he dives before he sees it and as you suggested anticipated it going to his left, but the scumderland player bent it around the players in to the right of the keeper as he had “anticipated”it would ave looked like a complete fool
