Nelson Semedo to Wolves £37m

Just reading that gave me a flashback to the late 90's/early 2000's when we'd end up with someone from top Serie A / La Liga teams and the buzz around the place. I miss that!

I wonder who his agent is 🤔

He is the eighth client of super-agent Jorge Mendes to arrive at Molineux, while he brings the number of Portuguese stars in Nuno Espirito Santo's squad back up to 10 following the sale of Diogo Jota to Liverpool. ”

It’s a complete joke

I wish it was a joke Boro were in on

Weren't we working with Mendes as part of the Peter Kenyon tie up?

Tempted to look at is as a "what could have been" but we would have been nowhere near the financial backing Wolves have received in the interim even if we had stayed up.

Fa rules prohibit one agent from controlling one clubs transfer policy it’s actually in the rules yet they seem to get away with it.

I get the point you are raising but I guess it is something that is a difficult to prove he controls their policy. Wolves will have signed players from other agents, Traore being one example.

£37m could help out a few National League clubs at the moment rather than going into agents pockets. Spending by EPL clubs is obscene, but has been for some time

Why should Wolves or any other premier league club need to give their money to a national league club?

Kerching Mendes. Remember when supermodels wouldn't get out of bed for less than ten grand a day?

He won't get out of bed for less than a million a day...

I think the buzz faded pretty quickly; Boksic and Mendieta were not received with the wild enthusiasm that TLF and Rav were.

Such is familiarity with big name imports in the PL now, I don't think there is any player that we could sign now that could recreate the fervour of TLF signing.

It's because it is not really their money - it's the obscene amounts of money poured in by Sky, which is killing the other levels of the game.

True, but its not the fault of the big clubs though. If they have the money they can either spend it, or fall behind the rest of the competition.

Big changes need to be made but not necessarily by the premier league clubs

No easy answers, but something needs to change. The real solution would be for people to stop subscribing to Sky, but that won't happen.

To be honest Col I’m pleased we are not. It’s clearly wrong, and in these time completely obscene. Much happier supporting a “proper club”

Oh I agree with you that the money involved is obscene for slightly better than average players let alone superstars. I meant from the perspective of playing the best teams and signing players of real quality from around the world. I can’t deny I long for the excitement of when we were signing players like Juninho, Ravanelli, Emerson, Viduka etc.

I know those days are long gone and short of Gibbo winning a massive Euromillions jackpot or selling to a billionaire (both unlikely) then we will do well to continue to be a decent championship team. Its a great league, competitive, and you are correct bearing in mind the times we live in.

Can hardly say Wolves arent a "proper" club. All that they have done is worked with an agent which we have in the past, and now they have a top 7/8 side a few years after being in the championship and likely will have European football for years to come.

Would you really have Neil Warnock and poor championship football over that?

May sound a bit mad but yes I would. Don’t want a team of millionaire Portuguese superstars, just like I wouldn’t want teams like Forest or Derby who are paying silly money for very ordinary players. We’ve made lots of mistakes but the way Neil Warnock is rebuilding is the right way and will work.
