Neil Warnock's damning assessment of Middlesbrough strikers: 'It shows what we need' [Gazette] + "Massive Mentality Issues" [Mail]

Fisher & Morsy are good signings & will prove to be so, others not so, he's convinced the base of the team to commit to the club, I think the players he's been bringing in have been stop gap players, Akpom was his top target, but not worked out, he'll be gone in the summer, we'll find out if he decides to stay on next season & builds

You get the feeling he's as frustrated as us fans are, the strikers are poor at best, Kebano seems ok, the other Mendez Laing not so, both will be gone in the summer as will the keeper

Who is seriously gonna take Akpom off our hands? He’s here until his contract ends for me. I don’t see us being that lucky. So overall you agree his signings have been poor. Yet you have full confidence he will get it right in summer?

Hes gone on record as saying he was his top target, not necessarily his No1, if he says that who are we to argue with, whatever thoughts we have on the player

You can criticise Warnock you know. If Woodgate said it he would be berated. It was a silly comment and a lie. I love Warnock but he’s not immune from a mistake or 2

Exactly what I’m trying to say. Expect a response saying if ‘NW’ thinks they are good enough then they must be.
Dont think I'll go down the road of saying that mind

I'll trust his judgement in the transfer market becuase of who he is & what he's acheived, if he told me Akpom was his 1st choice signing i'd believe him, if he turns round & tells me he's one of the best strikers he's bought then I'd disgaree with him

Though I wouldnt spit my dummy out after every defeat either, it is what it is as a Boro fan

Nothing wrong with spitting your dummy out after a shambles of a performance like that. It was terrible.

I'm not saying you can't critise NW at all, he's our manager & there to be shot at, we've done exceptionally well so far, when we win its all rosy in the garden, as we lose the knives are out, are we to have an inquest after every setback

Good Morning Cardiff.
Hello there.

Erinus I dont think anybody is having a go at Warnock per se. Im just perplexed as others are that despite 10 signings given to him by Gibson this season there is a suggestion in your line of argument that these were not “his players”. He signed them. And as Abel and Block say if he has to sign 10 more when does he take responsibility for them?

Warnock is a paid employee of MFC. He is contracted. He has some artistic licence but can not go around throwing his employer under the bus even if he wants to. Karanka told the truth in January 2017 and was sacked 6 weeks later. The manager is always consulted but we know from AK that gifts still get delivered. The manager must take responsibility for most signings though as they will get their way on many of them, but absolutely are responsible for every team selection, substitution and game and man management.

Warnock has done well with the squad. He has made mistakes, of course he has, but he can not legislate for defending like yesterday. It was shambolic from seasoned pro’s like McNair, Fry, Fisher, Howson and Bettinelli to name but 5. Others were culpable too. Bola should have put us 1 up, but City were gifted 2 good opportunities to score before they did. They served fair warning about our defending before scoring and we never learned from it, manager and players should have heeded that warning. Neil pointed out we controlled the 2nd half, but I would argue that City took their foot off the gas at three up, which papered over the cracks in truth.

I don’t think there is any ‘gifts’ out of this lot. These are Warnock signings. He has made that clear for me. I’m worried about next season because I have no idea who to expect, I really hope we sign a couple of top strikers for this level and proper goalie. Then build around that.

What shall we do after every hammering? Be happy in the knowing we have Warnock. I’m not sure you how want us to feel

I think Akpomb was a desperation signing and possibly could have been a gift, whether he was really a gift is a moot point, but he was no way the type of striker that Warnock wanted, nor indeed has had at most other clubs. I prefer Britt to Akpomb and Britt as I have always maintained since he came, is poor, that said we have never played to his limited strengths.

Morning Cardiff
Maybe I worded it wrong & yes the players are his players, Watmore, Fisher, Hall & Morsy are good signing & will prove to be so

Akpom just hasnt worked out at all, he started off really well 2 goals in 2 games then his performances dropped, getting the base of the team to sign extended contracts was an excellent move, the final few players he signed Bolasie, Kebano, Mendez Laing were brought in just to get bodies into the club

I was referring to signing long term players who, experience, or young hungry wide players, replacing or challenging Howson, it just seems the players he's bringing in are stop gaps, until he has the finance to buy who he wants, if he does

If he was as bad in the transfer marker as we're making out how can he have been so successful as a manager in the hardest league in the world

I think Warnock mentioned he’s been after him a while and was linked with him at Cardiff. The transfer went on for around 3 weeks with agents involved and Warnock was nearly very disappointed he never got him. He wasn’t no 1 target we all know that no matter what he says but he was the one we signed. That for me is a worry.

Here’s the link

“He’s been my number one choice”

Thank you gravy, thought I read it (y)

I know he said it. Never said he never. Did you also read that we had a bid for Moore accepted and he had a choice between us and Cardiff? And Warnock mentioned in conferences during the season that he was one we were after. Moore signed for Cardiff before we signed Akpom

The contrast between Reading on saturday and Bristol last night is extreme.

The problems last night were:
1. Experienced players having absolute stinkers, with Howson and McNair the obvious pair - they were both utterly dire.
2. Our other better players played poorly - Dijksteel, Watmore and Kebano were off it. Only Morsy and Bola did reasonably and showed heart.
3. Our glaring weaknesses were exposed; we have no strikers and a desperately poor goalkeeper who breeds zero confidence.
4. The January new signings were always going to be fitness gambles.
5. The team always starts slow, on the back foot and establishes zero momentum before they are behind.

We are miles away from going up and will not make the top 6.
We are better off than last season.
We have some better and improved players versus last season and we have some very good players in Tav, Bola, Fry, Dijksteel and Watmore.
But there is a clear-out of the remaining detritus required in summer and quite simply better players with more heart brought in to replace them. (Assombolonga, Akpom, Fletcher, Saville)
The loan players will have to really show they want and deserve to be here if they are to come back, but Bettinelli should be chased already.
