Today's Northern Echo
I'm so pleased to hear this
Not one of them has proved themselves to be vital to us, so whatever is needed to get a better squad has to be done
As Ive said before I'm not especially wanting any particular player gone, just wouldn't lose a wink of sleep over anyone leaving if that's what it takes
Bernie Slaven's 23 goals always gave you hope! The board is all about opinions but I thought a few of the young players had very good seasons particularly Coulson, Spence and Tav.
Howson to me had his best season at the club.
Our best ever crop of young player was in 1986 (Cooper, Ripley, Pally were all future England internationals and debuted) but as a team it was awful. I do remember at the time thinking Ripley and Pally were very good for their age, but no one rated them. Beagrie was spotted and acted upon by Sheffield United and he went onto to play at the top level. They bought him for 35k and sold him for £220k. We went into admin for the sake of £1m. I will stick my neck out and say the three I have listed will play in the Premiership sometime in their career.
I would be interested to get the opinions of 1986 fans - did you think our youngsters then would make the top league?

The 1986 kids were first choice every week out of necessity but you could see the quality of Pally and Ripley from early on.

I agreeI dont get the Tav love in quite yet. He has looked ok but he is getting some praise not exactly Ramirez first time round is he. Lets face it apart from a few bright spots he hasnt been able to command a starting place in just about the worst boro team in over 30 years.
Jury still out for me. Big season for him
