NBCC shoplifting enquiry

I was talking to member of Asda staff that people are walking out with trolleys full of stuff, they just don't give a phuck, they know the worst that is going to happen to them is security will take the stolen goods from them. Until these people are prosecuted nothing will change.

I've noticed that all the higher priced spirits, liquors and some of the wines now in Sainsburys, Morrisons etc are being transferred into large locked cabinets and you have to request a product to obtain it...how does this work for self service? Is there a buzzer somewhere or do you have to go off and locate a member of staff and take them away from their work to fetch a bottle for you? When it gets busy over the festive season I can see this being a right pain in the @rse

Yep, it many Walgreens in the US (Particularly in NY & San Francisco) almost all the stock is behind those glass doors because of the amount of shop lifters - makes getting anything a pain !

I spent 10 years working at Safeway back in the 90s and a code 100 and code 50 calls over the tannoy was often a highlight.

Code 100’meant a potential shoplifter had been highlighted and somebody would go and follow, code 50 meant they were making a run for it and all male members of staff would give chase. Once I found myself at the front of the group I proper 5hat myself and slowed down so the rest caught me up!!!

Happy days 😁

@1finny I was specifically talking about massive chains taking on the cost of shop lifting, even if they "can" afford it because they have massive profits, they'll never lose money because they just hike prices up to cover losses. Never have I once said that shop staff should risk their own lives by getting involved. Purely the reason shops don't want security to get hands on is because they don't want the bad publicity, its happened multiple times before where security have tackled people to the ground, and they find out the person hasn't stolen anything at all, with phone cameras now they just can't take the risk. BUT people know now, security can't really stop them, we got told don't call the police unless the items are valued at over £200. I've also been assaulted multiple times.

Sorry, a bit of crossed wires.
I’m only saying they don’t hike prices to cover shoplifting - (I’ve spent nearly 20 years in the industry)
