Name one player

Throughout your history of supporting Boro that you wish we'd never signed
I'll start with the most obvious Mr Assombalonga !
Think you're on a winer there Can't, if you don't mind I'll choose 2 different players, one from AP & one from the Riverside

Peter Davenport - IMHO we would have comfortably stayed up if we'd have bought a couple of experience journeymen instead

Gascoigne is the main one for me, I can't see one good reason we signed him, finished & passed it

Regardless of transfer fee, there have been some incredibly baffling signings over the years.

Adlene Guedioura is the first one to come to mind. Clearly nowhere near good enough and apparently we paid £3.5m, which was at least £3.3 too much.

Couldn't agree more with both of those Erimus, Gazza was one of my favourite ever players until he signed for us and if we had signed a better strike partner for Bernie than Davenport we would have stayed up

Gazza is a great shout. Arguably his signing was the beginning of the end for Merson too.

Who knows, but certainly a far better chance he'd have stayed if we hadn't signed a fellow alcoholic and stuck him in the same house.

Think I'm sure I read that one of the reasons we sold Emerson was to fund the Gazza signing too (club saw Emo as too much of a flight risk at that point, although I believe he'd indicated he was happy to stay).

Hignett might also not have lost his place in the cup final and might have signed a new contract?

So I reckon there's a parallel universe somewhere, where we'd not signed Gazza and instead kept hold of Emerson, Merson and Hignett.

Davenport is an interesting one. I watched him against us a few weeks before we bought him and for the first time I thought we had joined the big league. I was wrong. I was wrong about Strachan too.

Willie Faulkner had everything, he just could not be bothered.

Another vote for Britt here.
That massive transfer almost crippled us, and certainly meant we were operating in the transfer market with our hands tied behind our back for a few years.

When we signed Davenport & heard the news as I was eating my F&C dinner I was so excited, like you I thought we'd hit the big time & he would almost certainly keep us up, but quite the opposite, it just didn't work out here & when you think he is probably the only player we've had in a tug of war between ourselves & a bigger club (Aston Villa) & unfortunately we won the race

Gascoigne I just don't have the time of day for him, I just didn't want it to happen
