Name a place you have visited that never lived up to the hype.

Dubai is as tacky as it gets and enjoyed by creeps.
Dubai was great 25 - 30 years ago, now it's packed out with the real housewives of Essex. Was there for a few days in September (the first time in 6 years) and was disappointed in how it had got worse. Went to the Karama and couldn't believe how it had changed. The cheap and cheerful knock off shops all gone, replaced by high end looking boutiques. (Still selling Knock Offs but at greatly inflated prices).
Even the Mrs doesn't want to go back now, and she used to love the place.

Cancun, meant to be some sort of amazing night out but it was ****, and seemed quiet  I did my research too, but nope, was cack.

Bali, it's not as nice as people make out, apart from the Gili Islands, but they're still not that great. There's better places closer to home, which are not full of Aussies stuffing their faces on $100 lobster, being tossers to the staff earning $10 a day.

Can't believe how many are saying Vegas is bad, but if you don't like gambling/ casino's then don't go? Or if you like nights out, and doing things, then do some research on where to go and when, as there's countless options.

Not sure why others are complaining about luxury islands being crap off resort/ out the hotel, surely everyone knows this is the case, for most places? If you're going to one of those places just think of it like you're going to the hotel only, as a lot of them are largely just that, but the weather and hotels are ace.

Not sure why people complain about LA either. Everyone knows it's a concrete jungle, and pretty rough in most places, or rough to get to them and tons of traffic etc. There are still some great places to go, and great nights out if you do some research. There's tons to do in Cali too, it's my favourite state in the US.
I think someone said we’re all different and get different things out of life. Not everyone is going to like the places that you do

Fwiw I had a great night in coco bongo in cancun. Wasn’t impressed with cancun as a whole but the night in there was superb

Dubai. Soulless, built for the “look at me” social media generation.

Vegas. Blackpool with heat, lots of it. Great if you want Celine Dion, five star accommodation and gambling. You could save thousands by seeing someone at the Dormans singing her songs, have a go on the fruities and then get a taxi to Rockcliffe for some luxury.

Dundee. Made Port Clarence look middle class.

Rome is amazing, how anyone can be impressed by the Trevi Fountain and a big set of stone stairs by the Spanish Embassy will never cease to amaze me.

Honorable mention for Canterbury. Absolutely nothing there, the Cathedral is about the 84th best in the U.K., traffic is dreadful and when its best feature is Fenwicks you know theres something amiss.
Yes, got to agree about Canterbury, it's pleasant but pretty dull. The Marlow Theatre is nice.

ACoruna went there last November for a day trip, I was in Santiago for a few days and decided I needed to get out and see something in Galicia, considering its history it really didn't seem to be a that great a place, wish I gone to Vigo instead.
Las Vegas, I went for 6 nights in 2010 which may have been 3 nights too long, I'm not sure if I would like to give it another go, it just felt soulless which other posters have said about it, If I went again I would not go on the strip but stay Downtown instead and maybe 1 or 2 strategic visits too the strip.
Paris on my 1st trip in July 89, it felt like a big ******** with prostitute's down every back street, I could have been having aftereffects of Amsterdam where I had just come from. I went again in 2015 about 3 days after the Charlie Hebdo shooting, I was in Spain at the time but dropped what I was doing to go and join my partner who had gone to the big protest two days after the shooting, this time Paris felt different and liked the Sacre Coeur and the view from it.

Andorra la Vella was expecting Heidi got Hi-de-Hi.

A soulless, humdrum, sterile place devoid of character, no sights to see and the only place I've been to that I want to revisit because I can't believe it was really that bad.

There was a shop that sold both guns and sewing machines so maybe hunters with a penchant for making their own clothes are the tourists they are targeting.

I cant believe London, New York or Las Vegas make it on to this list, probably my 3 favourite cities in that order.

For me it's the Pyramids. You imagine trecking through the desert to find three solitary pyramids standing majestically above the Sahara. What you actually get is the Egyptian equivalent of the M1 steaming past full of burger kings and KFC's, whilst Arabs try and sell you tacky souvenirs to remind you of the experience.

One you get inside you see that tourists have decided that the only thing missing from this wonder of architecture that's stood for thousands of years, is to let you know that "Deano was ere 1986"
I've got an idea for the Angel of the North (if thr roadworks ever end).

I'm quite taken aback that Vegas is coming in for so much stick, surely you must have half an idea what the place is about before you book there? I can only help think that some of you may have stayed downtown (Fremont Street) rather than on The Strip as they vary massively in terms of experiences. I wouldn't stay or even visit Downtown these days.

Horses for courses though and I agree it's not for everyone.

I agree, and maintain it's the most "honest" US city as they make no bones about what Vegas is, and what you do there.

I actually think downtown has a certain faded charm about it, but with regards to the strip I fail to see how anyone can fail to be impressed by somewhere like the Bellagio or The Venetian.

I love the place, and have had such differing experiences; from having my 40th Birthday there and having about 20 friends fly from all over the world for a 3 day party of cabanas, partying and great restaurants, to going for a weekend with the wife and just sitting by the fake beach in The Mandalay bay, taking in a show and eating some great food.
