Mowatt - a first?

Just said this in another thread. I’m pretty sure we should have been pointlessly ‘monitoring’ him. That’s usually the script.
 
Maybe it will came about after last week's match. Wilder & Bruce post-match conversation about why he wasn't playing.
 
I remember years ago putting on Ceefax on a Saturday morning and it said we were about to sign Batistuta. Thats the closest to this. Erimus might have one in his database?
 
I can think of a couple of fairly recent bolts from the blue.

There was no talk at all of Kike until he actually signed. Nsue maybe broke the night before he signed in the Spanish media, but there was nothing in the English media.

These weren't deadline day type signings either, where some get fleeced and others get bargains.
 
We've had some unreal signings - I don't recall Ravinelli being talked about, just scored the winner in the CL final...

though the one that blew my mind was when I was watching Sky at a mates in holland & the ticker came accross the screen saying we'd signed the - £28m - Spanish international & one of the very best midfielders in Europe - on a FREE: Mendieta ...my Chelsea supporting mate thought they must have got Middlesbrough mixed up with Chelsea :-D

Mendieta is the one that stands out for me too. I remember reading it on Ceefax and not comprehending what my eyes were seeing.
