Morgan Rogers

I don't think anybody did.
It's definitely true. People could see he had potential to play at a higher level than us but to reach the level he has, and so quickly, I would call bull**** on anyone claiming that they did. Us fans saw him play a handful of games, in a poor team, and in all sorts of positions but people who's job it is to assess these things at a top club like Man City thought that selling him to us for £2m plus a 25% sell on fee (total £5m) obviously didn't expect it.

so we paid 1m for him and sold him within a year for 8/12m and played no part in turning his career round

He wasn't here long enough for us to have a big impact on his career.
He was surely signed by Emery himself after witnessing what he could offer in that 3rd Round FA Cup tie, rather than as a result of longterm scouting, Am not saying he wasn't on the scouting radar but it was his Boro spell and his development under Michael Carrick and of course the fact we played Villa that led to the move.
As a result of that Morgan Rogers spell Michael Carrick's Boro is now much more coveted by Premier clubs wanting to develop players out on load. Carrick is seen as a manager that can really bring on a young player. It will have helped with getting Doak.

we turned his career round from going nowhere to the premier league.
imo.
you obviously don't agree so we'll have to agree to disagree.
We definitely set him on the road not least giving him the opportunity to platform his skills at a larger club than Blackpool where City were sending him beforehand.

look back at my posts and a handful of other posters, I defended him from the ludicrous verbal tirades from the off, he was clearly very very talented.
There's a big difference between not thinking he's **** and not good enough for us like some people did and thinking he'd be playing regularly in the champions league a year later though.

We didn't turn his career around. He was a 21 year old with 6 months of championship football under his belt. We paid good money for someone with his level of experience and he started the season playing on our dreadful run, was dropped for our good run and then didn't start another league match until the December when our injuries started to bite. We lost the two he did start and he was on the bench again and then started every match from the WBA at home just before Xmas (our 1st league win with him as a starter). He only played as much as he did because of the injuries.

He was a kid still gaining experience, mostly playing league cup matches against L1 teams. He had barely got going with us. He put himself in the shop window with a good goal against Chelsea, when we got battered and then his performance against Villa made Emery take note and he bought him off the back of that one display.

Turning his career round makes it sound like he was spiralling down to nowhere. He left a prestigious academy for a team at the top end of the championship and quickly earned himself a move. I don't think we get too much credit for what he has achieved. We will be barely a footnote in his career by the time he's done.

I get that he was defended and rightly so. He was criticised wrongly at times but i'm not having it that anyone called out that he was going to become what he has become at Villa.. during his first couple of months with us. Not a chance.
