The point is that players need to play competitive matches to truly show whether they are capable of playing at the top level but not playing competitive football (i.e. U23s, ressies whatever its called) can stymie development. So a player who might otherwise be a very good player in the second tier would struggle to get pitch time in the PL. It's a gamble, a judgement call and it looks like Emery got this one right.Exactly.. it's total rubbish when people say that players should stay in the Championship to help with their development at 21 and 22 year old. People saying the same about Hackney. If they are good enough they will get chances in a Premier League squad. Along with training with better quality players daily.
Just watched MOTD and saw Tav score a thunderfukka, another player who has made the step up. But not every player does.
