More injuries

Is it me or are there a lot more injuries this season, is that because of the extra time after the 90 mins that can sometimes be 10 to 12 minutes over?

I think it’s just a bad run of luck so far. Last season we hardly had any until the run in when we lost Ramsey McGree and Forss in quick succession - it can seriously disrupt things but hopefully we’ll get most back by new year and have a clear run till the end of the season. We’re certainly due a change of luck for the better

As MC says it's brilliant how the wider squad has stepped up. I think it'll hold us in good stead with player development longer term.

The most players we had missing last season at any one point seemed to be 5 or 6. I think we were a bit fortunate with injuries. Quite a difference with 10 or 11 out already this season.

Seems like most teams are experiencing a lot of injuries this season, especially in the PL.

No idea if it is bad luck or if their is a root cause, but just get the impression there are more longer term injuries this season across the board, not just with us.

If there is a big increase of similar types of injuries within the club then I think it could be analysed to see if there is a root cause. (Too much workload, intensity etc)
If the injuries are varying in type then it is more likely that it is just bad luck.

A lot of injuries occur through fatigue and the fact that players are playing for up to 15 minutes longer this season certainly adds credence to the more injuries argument.

Not saying it’s not a factor but has this increase in injury time added the same amount of ball in play time.

I wonder if it’s an accumulation of the change in the game, I.e more teams playing with higher counter press and intensity… less sit back and park the bus. Also the amount of time off players have had due to the World Cup and more games in a shorter period of time

When Klopp first went to Liverpool, they had a lot of injuries in the back end of the season for his first couple of seasons. It was something Klopp was criticised for. That high pressing, fast paced counter attacking football takes it's toll over the season. Also Liverpool didn't have the squad depth to rotate players.

It's a squad game now. Players can't play that style and pace for 50 games a season.

I wonder how many injuries are muscle strains which may be due to extra fatigue by playing more minutes. And whether they are more frequent in the Premier as players get cold waiting for overlong VAR decisions.

Agree with the above over tired bodies/ minds may contribute particularly to our list of injuries, as they are so varied there doesnt seem to be a pattern.

Not necessarily the length of games, or additional time, but the change in styles. It would be interesting to see stats of distance covered by an MC squad compared to squads in the past.

McGree - Injured after only 7 starts.
Forss - Injured twice, with only 4 starts all season.
Lenihan - Injured after only 8 starts.
Smith - Injured very early in pre-season, injured again after only 4 starts.
O'Brien - Injured early on his 4th start, from a bad tackle.

Almost none of our long term injuries have been because of the minutes they've played this season.

Could possibly make a case for Hackney if it's more serious that Carrick has let on.

Hackney played all the England under 21 games also, Mcrgee, Forss and Lenihan also played most if not all their international games

Think Carrick has said as much recently. Think he said they're looking at it, but the injuries we've had all seem to be different so if there is a root cause, it's hard to identify.

Probably simply just bad luck though.

McGree played one game for Australia this season.

Lenihan hasn't played a minute for Ireland this season.

Forss came off the bench in two games for Finland, he was injured for the other internationals.
