Port Vale fans 'attacking' Swindon team on halfway line, following PV scoring winning penalty

WTF is wrong with some people

Last day ...... Boro 4 - 1 Newcastle. Was there a pitch invasion? I don't recall one but might just be my memory.

Honestly....its about life...covid after effects of lock.down.....being hemmed in....inflation...everything costing a fortune...people are taking.rhe chance to run free and blow a gasket on the pitch...in my opinion
..
The ones doing rhe assaulting are appalling...New phenomenon....but I believe it stems.feom rhe above ... what else can it be .?

Only ever gone on the pitch once .It was at Ayresome the night we went up beating Oxford. Wasn't a big step as I had spent the entire game sitting on the grass by the corner flag on the right of the Holgate end goal with lots of other kids who had been passed over the crowds heads to the front due to the crush.

Been on twice, once after the Wigan game at AP when we got promoted, and the other was at Hartlepool when AS got his 2nd, looking back I'm not proud but it had been a long long summer and the relief of being able to see my club got the better of me.

No pitch invasion
I remember been invited into the 100 club after the game, but I needed a change of clothing, I legged it home straight after the final whistle, lived in the village, then to AP 100 room for a few beers to celebrate our victory ' thankful to Leeds, survival

To my shame I twice have gone.onto the pitch, when we beat Oxford in 1967 to be promoted and at Tranmere in 1992/4(?) - the Robson promotion. The Tranmere "invasion" was helping Donna (Ray192's) niece onto the pitch as she had broken her leg in the previous week and was 'potted'. Great memories but smacking a player wasn't even a thought.
If we're not careful we'll have the fences back. We can't carry on like this.
Kids on the pitch when the game is in play for a selfie, invasions for winning nothing, dicking an opposition player (who wasn't even playing!) after the final whistle.
We've improved a lot since Valley Parade, Heysel and Hillsborough but we can lose that very quickly unless supporters accept their part of the deal - keep off the flaming pitch!!

Sky were saying Swindon have an ex PV player Harry McKirdy who had been getting stick off the PV fans and had been goading them back during the match. At the final whistle the fans tried to get to him but the Swindon players got in the fans way to stop them getting at him.
Just moronic stupidity.

It's getting dangerous now. This is just inviting back the draconian days. I also can't see for any good reason why you'd want to set smoke canisters off. What's the point of it? We made do with ripped up gazettes.

Only ever went onto the pitch once ...that was at the end of the Wigan match in 87.

It has become progressively more grim - from the euros last summer onwards . I get the exhuberance . I don’t get the hatred . (Probably drug and alcohol fuelled , as well as the general ‘keyboard warriorness’ of trump / Farage and the like .

As for solutions …. Hit clubs where it hurts - points deductions and bans . Yes it’s not the clubs fault - but you tell a Man U , Man City , Liverpool , Chelsea et al - your clubs invade pitch , automatic 3 point , 5 point ban - no one is getting onto the pitch

Definitely time the FA/EFL got a grip of it and it’s easy to do, a pitch invasion means you forfeit the game.

Just in the last couple of weeks it would have seen Bristol Rovers not going up, Forest, Huddersfield and Port Vale all losing their play off final place. No fan would do it again, but that won’t happen we’ll wait to either a player or fan gets seriously injured or worse and then we’ll have 3 year inquiry in to how to stop it happening again.

We're living in an age where tribalism seems widespread and in which treating those outside your tribe with contempt is almost the norm. That means not only celebrating your successes but shaming your opponent. What is happening reflects a wider societal trend I suspect.

From the seemingly tolerance of the behaviour of individual young fans who seemed happy to be allowed on to the playing area to seek selfies and autographs at the Riverside to the most recent and more sinister encroachments of this last couple of weeks - something needs to be done urgently.
