Remember we used used to have what we called the 'bread van' come to our village, had all sorts if I recall apart from just bread. Sweets, pop, fruit and veg. That was in the 80's

An Ice Cream van came round earlier - playing 'pop goes the weasel' through the sound system.

I remember when they came round on a sunday in the 70s and yer mam would go and get the ice cream, in a glass fruit bowl

Yes i remember them around Easterside early 60's.
Gingers at the bottom of Darnton Drive was always busy.
Where on Easterside did you live Holgate? I lived on Caversham Road until I was 12 in 1967 before moving to the top of Broadwell Road opposite the junction of Broadwell Road and Darnton Drive.

Lived on Aldergrove Drive but moved back into town at an early age.Started School at Beechwood because Easterside School was still unopened.

Do you remember the boogey van? Was a blue van that used to sell sweets.
That's the one I'm sure, we moved from boro around 83 but used to go back at least once a month to stop at my gran and grandads and I'm sure we used to go to the boogey van.

I remember a Scottish mate of mine telling his kids that the chimes on the ice cream van meant there was no ice cream left. Poor kids believed him too until they saw their mates with ice cream
