Mo Salah

It’s a very calculated and clever move this. The Saudi Arabian club will buy Salah and severely weaken Liverpool, one of their owners’ main rivals for Champions League qualification re. Newcastle United.

It’s akin to Abu Dhabi buying Manchester City and going straight into Arsenal and Villa to buy the best two players from each team, weakening direct rivals while directly strengthening their own team on the way to finishing in the top four.

Surprised he hasn't been targeted before, from what I've read he's the most followed footballer by Muslim supporters, by a long way so only natural the Saudi league would want him and the £1.5m per week will be nice!

Tax free and half up front too. It may be difficult to justify morally but you can see why so many players are going there.

Crazy money. Liverpool might have accepted if they could get a half decent replacement. Wonder if this will run and run. Not bad money for a 31 year old.

Apparently they will be back in later today with a £175 million bid....Will really test Liverpool resolve........Even if they turn it down today, Saudi transfer deadline day is 7th September......so they will be back.........gonna put a lot of noses out this Saudi league.

Seems like a good deal for Liverpool. Wonder if Salah will decide he is ready to retire from serious football yet though, given that he can be confident that a similar offer will still be on the table from Saudi in a year or two, and he could play in that league for as long as he feels like doing so.

He's a top player obviously is Salah, but he is 31 now. Liverpool have Jota, Gakpo, Darwin and Diaz, plus several good youngsters. They should have bought Cole Palmer for £42.5m and sold Salah, leaving them £100m+ to spend in the next window.

I wonder what's keeping them? Checking down the back of the settee for £25m loose change?

Think it will happen, but more likley to be next summer, unless they come back with circa £200m.

I find the whole Saudi approach to be more than a little distasteful, they are actively using the sums involved to drive their publicity, including salaries.

I'm guessing they don't have any FFP restrictions in their league.

If they don't, FIFA need to step in.
And thats how to stop them joining European competition with ffp.

The whole saudi fantasy football league is going to **** off so many people and clubs all over Europe Newcastle will be hated and tarnished for their association with saudi.

Also worth keeping an eye on who Newcastle sign on loan in January. Or sort of ‘semi-permanent’ loans maybe, where players are shuttled between Newcastle and the Saudi Pro League.

Rihad Mahrez, Ruben Neves, Marcelo Brozovic, Gabri Veiga, Jota, Sergei Milenkovic-Savic, Malcolm, Moussa Dembele, Franck Kessie, Sadio Mane, Aymeric Laporte…

If Newcastle are struggling a bit then what’s the odds on a handful of these players signing for them in January? You can guarantee that those running the Saudi football operation are already several steps ahead with it IMO.

if he was to go today, who is on the same level that can not only replace him, but come from a club who's willing to sell today and then get to liverpool to complete a medical, all before 11pm tonight

understand it's an astronomical amount and he's probably past his peak. but if liverpool want to compete i think they'd be daft to sell now
