Yup, and no doubt receiving a far less sympathetic reaction for the horrendous crime of not being an Olympic champion.Brave and hats off to him for revealing it. For every story like this that we know about, there are likely tens if not hundreds of thousands more illegally smuggled here illegally each year, by criminal trafficking gangs, which proves the immigration system in this country is not fit for purpose.
Incredibly brave of him to speak up on this. He clearly felt the time was right to do so, and I hope it brings him an element of peace with the ordeal he went though. It's grim reading, and it must have been difficult to keep the information largely to himself for so long.
He was probably understandably scared of what the reaction would be from both the public and government if it was revealed he'd came here illegally, even though it's clearly through no fault of his own.
Unfortunately there are many countries in this world where child labour and trafficking isn’t really batted an eyelid about. It’s shocking therefore that successive governments (Labour and Conservative) have let this take place on the streets of Britain. As a side note, what kind of animals are on the receiving end of this?! Who would get a trafficked nine year old child that doesn't speak English to look after their own kids? Utter animals devoid of any emotional intelligence is my guess.
Fair enough, that is definitely the key takeaway from the story. If you're a racist anyway.
Definitely sounded like a bit of a hero from the story I read. His teacher Alan Watkinson, is my mum's cousin. Top bloke. Was Mo Farah's best man.
Used to live in and play cricket for Saltburn when he was younger.
And there are many reactions to this on social media today along the lines of strip him of his medals and deport him.
