Anyone care to elaborate on why he’s in the squad never mind starting? He’s been very very average for Villa this season but he wins out over other potential England centre backs. Certainly goes against Gareth’s directive of picking players in form.

He relies on his physicality too much, not very good at reading the game. You can get away with that at league level, but you're gonna struggle at international or european level. Fry will be ahead of him in 18 months, maybe another 2 or 3 others.

He's a left sided centre back and the only player who can play there in the squad other than Maguire who is injured. Maguire is right footed but can play left side just as well...

Thank you 🔥

I‘m amazed that he is a Premier League player let alone a full International. As said above, being left footed is the only ’quality’, It must surely provide hope for Ben Gibson if he can finally kick on next season.

He has a left foot and which other options have been knocking on the door this season? Godfrey and white are worse, it’s a sorry state of affairs we’re hanging our hopes on an injured maguire and jon “got a mistake in him” stones.

Comfortably England's worst player today.

Not a regular watcher of Villa but by all accounts Konsa has been better than him all season.

White certainly isn’t ‘worse’ he was quality today. He will have a great career in the game and will play at a top club.

Not even good enough for Villa if they want to be a top club. Gets caught ball watching all the time.

From the online chatter it sounds like many fans rate players like Konsa and Tomori higher, can’t say I’ve seen enough of Villa or Serie A but what little I’ve seen of Mings hasn’t convinced me he should be a regular starter for England. I doubt he will be either, but central defence used to always be a pretty solid area for the national team, we don’t seem to have the 3-4 world class to excellent (on paper at least) CB’s we used to have with this group just now.

The early-mid 2000’s defensive half of the team with the current attacking options would be an interesting combination.

Thought Ben White looked very confident and solid today, much better on the ball than Mings but he has something over the others and that’s a left foot.

White did well enough, Godfrey doesn't look ready based on the past couple of games. Mings will never truly be ready.

Absolutely bang on...until you brought fry into it
