Mihkail Gorbachev has died

The man who sold the biggest bastion of world socialism down the river to court the imperialist West. Will not be missed.

Oh dear. You mean communism that subjected Eastern Europe to endless suffering ? The Baltic states and former satellite states couldn’t wait to leave soviet influence. I mean Ukraine is now desperate to leave Russian influence now too

Gorbachev was actually one of the few sane leaders of the Soviet Union . He saved the place from civil war and mended relations with the west . May he rest in peace. RIP

Communism oversaw a medieval agrarian economy become a world superpower at the pinnacle of technology in under a century. Ask those who lived in the USSR and modern Russia which they'd prefer and you'd get a pretty unanimous answer. The lies from western propaganda is still deeply rooted I see.

Maybe the old Russians reminisce about soviet times . But is that because they were young and look fondly back at their youth or the standard of living they had in the ussr? As I said , all the satellite states and former states that were forced to be in it couldn’t wait to leave when they had the chance. I mean Russia invaded Ukraine because they were trying to move west and away from Russia influence .

You mean during Stalin times, where he killed millions of people to industrialise the economy? He subjected the Ukrainians and others to famine and killed any opposition or sent them to the gulags. He was very much as evil as hitler.

Bless ya , western media can have its bias at times. But it’s nothing to the ***** the Russians trot out

Perhaps it's because the health care that many had enjoyed in the areas outside of the heavily metropolitan areas has all but dried up, together with the rest of the infrastructure. You won't be reading that in the western press though, nor in the Russian press.

He was a good man. The world was on the brink of nuclear war in 1983. He pulled it back. And then when he tried to reform the system it collapsed and he didn't send in the tanks. Just a shame he was replaced by a drunkard and then a gangster.

russia wasn't socialist, it was communist and needed massive reform. What he did wasn't bad, it was the next drunken loon that fubar'ed the country and world

The people in russia had very little though, the gdp was poor and most of it funded military not education, health, etc. If russians felt their country was great it's because they've ended up in a mess of a pretend democracy which is really just a corrupt mess
