Mick Lynch

Government Health Minister - pedling a similar "cant afford it" line, concerning Nurses....but. Actions speak louder than words(y)

This kind of schoite stinks

Example
Family of 4 have £100 disposable income a week.
Mum buys a £100 dress every week and kids starve.
Can the family afford to eat
Of course they can.
It’s a choice

Our governments choice is to give banks a £7bn tax break in the last budget but shaft nurses, rail workers et al
And, don’t get me started on allowing bankers bonuses

Its a choice
Poverty, food banks, cold homes its all a frickin choice

It doesn't really matter. If he does a bad job then the members of his union will either get rid of him or deselect him.

The Tories have convinced a group of voters that wage increases will happen when the economy improves but when the economy doesn't improve also wait until the economy improves.

They are confidence tricksters. If you've fallen for it then sorry. Things will improve.

The UK media keep saying railworkers have been offered 9%, but isn't that a 2 year deal based on major efficiency gains.

People have a go at the media in Russia, but the UK media can completely misrepresent working class workers and people in this country.
Yes that 9% is over two years. 9% looks better than 4.5% so if inflation over the next two years is 11% than over two years that will be 22% which will mean a real terms pay cut over two years of 13%.

Cheers F/D

To be fair I expect inflation drop to around 8% in 12 months time, but thats still 19% inflation over 2 years, against a 9% offer based mainly on productivity gains and reduction in overtime rates etc.

The rail industry feels like its being run down, with trains not available most days, prices going up by over 5.5% per year, but wages at less than 4.5%, which if accepted will lead to staff shortages in the future.

I think it’s over 3 or 4 years, when you consider last year was the 3rd without a rise for many railway workers.
It also completely ignores the proposed reduction in overtime rates and Sunday rates, which probably represents a multiple % loss!

As I repeatedly say, the Russian media is a completely different beast to what happens here so comparisons aren’t helpful. Our media can be atrocious, and I agree it needs serious attention as parts of it work contrary to the needs of the ordinary person all too frequently.

But people have a go at the Russian media because it is state controlled and says what the Kremlin wants or allows it to, most independent media has been shut down or forced underground/overseas. Anti-government strikes would be barely reported and strikers likely dealt with quite harshly (police harassment and brutality are normal, prisons are very tough) if they were seen as a potential threat to the status quo. That’s a far cry from the situation here, even if we can acknowledge our own shortcomings and areas to improve.

He's squirming here when presented with the result of his support for Brexit.

Still, who needs all those holidays, sick days and protection from instant dismissal?

I actually think that's a decent discussion. Challenged fairly by O'brian, he explained his position calmly.

Not that I agree with his stance mind you, but he set out his thinking in a measured manner
