Michael Tautology Carrick

Listen again because he may have actually given one or two things away this week. Subtle changes in policy/direction perhaps.

I mean, if Carrick opened the press conference with "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. No further questions." and then walked out, he would probably become my favourite Boro manager of all time.
The wanton boys speech surpasses the sardines speech for me. The reaction shot of Ronaldo just elevates it to the next level. It also reminds me of the "San dimas high rules" speech from bill and ted when he ends it with "I love football".
God bless you Eric you are a truly magnificent b****d and the world would be a poorer place without you.

Leave him alone, its an unintentional mistake he will try to avoid repeating again to the general public. He has a new initiative, it will evolve in time, once the ground is filled to capacity.

He is soon going to be moving towards the use of metaphors as he wants to start squaring that circle, he will wear his heart on his sleeve, he will be an open book as he has nothing to hide, he‘ll cover all bases, be on the ball and avoid going back to the drawing board if we cut him some slack.

He's calm because he doesnt feel pressure to score as many goals as last season - implying he doesnt have any pressure to get promoted - its a transition season

Thats my reading anyway

I really enjoy collating the transcript of the whole conference.
Its of note that listening is a "key skill" which requires attention to detail, observation of body language, context and the individual nuances and accent of the person giving the conference.
We are all guilty of being selective in subliminally hooking on to our own "key words" and interpreting them according to our own frame of reference.
Thus. even though we may all have "listened" to the same media conference, we may already have processed his responses and encoded them, according to our own priorities - what we wanted to hear or thought we heard.
Its easy to miss out nuances of someones words, pauses, body language. Sometimes the answer to a question isnt verbal.
Being aware of our own "objectivity" and individual frames of reference are really important.
If we dont acknowledge them - we can miss what was actually said and interpret it as something completely different.

Was there someone different asking questions today? He didn't have a filter which was quite refreshing! MC seemed a little taken aback by the blunt approach.

I definitely got the impression that Carrick is planning medium term. He kept stressing the importance of doing things right and building the season (points total). Not that he is writing this season off, but he seems very much to be using this season to build a team/culture that can win promotion in time.

Yes. Did you pick up on what he said about loan signings.

Just tell us. Some of us are lazy and can’t be bothered to go find and listen to it all. Bullet points will suffice, if I can’t be arsed to listen I sure as hell won’t read war and peace.

Edit: I am speaking as the masses.
Not a big deal but in the midst of everyone being critical about the questions and indeed answers Carrick was reflecting on the policy of over dependency on loan signings.
The final journalist comes several times a season but was telling me today his first Boro press conference was with Bruce Rioch. Amazing to think about just how many Boro managers he must have spoken to over the decades.

Minimum 2.
Maximum 21 (Inc. Caretakers).

Managed three in one sentence on Saturday:

"It's important but the season is the season, games are the games, and it'll pan out how it's going to pan out" (from Northern Echo)
