Unfortunately I think Boro will struggle to hold onto him only a matter of time until something bigger and better will come.If so who we turn to then? I hope we keep to a back four under the next appointments as this system suits us. I don't want to look to far ahead .

Michael Carrick will be here for a year or two at least I think. A truly superb start as manager and of course other clubs will have noticed that. However, he took his time deciding whether the move to Boro was right which shows he doesn't make snap decisions. He works out the pros and cons. Having a great chairman in Gibbo who will give him plenty of time and plenty of funds, he knows he can achieve things here. He has a long career ahead of him and I don't doubt it will be at the highest level, but I have no doubt the foundations of it will be built over a couple of seasons here at the very least.

We struggled to keep hold of Bryan Robson for seven years, we struggled to keep hold of Steve McClaren for five years.. both were a shoe in to eventually succeed Alex Fergusson.

We struggled to hold on to Aitor Karanka for four years who we were clearly going to lose to Real Madrid.

Carrick could be with us for 14 years and still only be the same age as Paul Ince.. it’s a lot old game just look at Roy Hodgson 74, Bobby Robson 71, Alex Ferguson 71, Neil Warnock 70, Claudio Ranieri 70.. I think we’re safe for the next 25 years at least, a few champions leagues under his belt.

Honestly and realistically I think as long as Carrick feels like he can achieve and progress here, there’s no real reason for him to move on. West Ham don’t seem like much of a pull right now.. Spurs, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool.. Newcastle for the money, but then every club would be in the same position. Man City fans worry about Pep moving on, Liverpool fans worry about Klopp..

He’s our Pep, our Klopp and for now it’s going very well. He certainly doesn’t strike me as the sort to jump from club to club. He’ll be with us and want to lay down a real legacy.

Look at Chuba Akpom.. as a striker he seized the opportunity to go down in our history and he’s doing it. We’ve won one cup in our history.. we’ve made on EUFA cup final.
Promotion is a real possibility, I think he would want to prove himself in the premier league with us and I dare say push for silverware in the future. If he hits a ceiling here and cannot progress then I do believe (like anyone else would) he would move for the right opportunity.

Downing was with us for eight years initially and then reached that ceiling, moving to Villa, Liverpool and West Ham.. then came back for another four years. Nearly a 20 year playing career and then a 20 year+ managerial career is not out of the question.

Going to Man Utd he would always been in the shadow of Alex Fergusson, West Ham are a non starter for me if we go up, Chelsea is a basket case, Liverpool would be a weird one.. Spurs could offer a step up and maybe a post Eddie Howe Newcastle would tempt.
Seems like a long way off and the grass isn’t always greener.

Brian Clough at Forrest was the perfect fit and I’m sure most managers would like to emulate his success, the same with Alex Fergusson at Man Utd, early days but..

Can Michael Carrick achieve level of success and longevity here?

Fingers crossed!

To add to the above IMO, if we where to go up, whole sale changes are not required, granted we have a lot of loans which would need to be sorted but keeping that togetherness and understanding and adding quality where needed and good competition for places should be priority not hes not good enough and so on, its a gradual improvement and fans have to be realistic and remain with the management through the good and the bad!

All managerial reigns end.

If he doesn't move on to bigger and better things, he'll be sacked, or resign in failure. I'd rather the first of these happened: it means he's been a success. There's no other ways his reign could end, right?

"A matter of time" could be 4-5 years, so there's no point worrying about it.

I’m just enjoying it whilst it lasts, 1 year or 10 years, something good is happening and Carricks tenure here at the Boro will set the tone for managers moving forwards. 3 points today is all I’m caring about currently! UTB

Here`s an extract from Michaels press conference [on first page] as reported in the Match-day thread:

Media "noise" and Speculation?
"I dont watch it or listen to it" said Carrick, brushing off the question. "What goes on on the outside, goes on on the outside. I`ve kind of already hardened myself to that, so I dont tend to pay much attention". He continued...."I`m just loving being here at the moment with the players and the staff and the club....in a really good place".

A reporter asked him the question about whether he had heard the speculation about being a possible candidate for the West Ham job [should it become available]:

"I started at West Ham as a young boy. Its a fantastic football club. I know David [Moyes] very well. I`ve obviously played under him. I have huge respect for him, so I think for me to comment on anything is hugely unfair and I wouldnt do that. What I will say is, I hope that they have a really fantastic end to the season with David, because its a fantastic place and David is a good man. I really wish them all the success".

Has Carrick "exceeded" his own expectations since joining Boro?
Hes taken boro from 21st in October to 3rd in the table. How does that feel(?). Carrick replied candidly "I didnt really look that far ahead to be honest. I think it was a case of coming in, learning about the players [and] the club and seeing how far we could go. Thats not changed. Who knows where it will end up". And is he still happy to be at Boro(?) - [another daft reporter asked]! "Yes I`m delighted to be here. why wouldnt I? I`ve got a terrific club, a terrific group of playe
rs...and I love working here". Sounds pretty unequivocal!

Get a grip only a thought I doubt it will effect things.Straight back at ya.
I stand by my comments

You are talking about who do we get to replace a manager that’s been here ( in real terms with World Cup gap) barely 5 months.
