Michael Carrick

Any manager who is successful at a club like ours will inevitably move on to bigger and better things. I don't think anyone would begrudge them doing it either.

But there's a right way to go about it and a wrong way. Doing it halfway through a season during a promotion push is a bit out of order. I think if you've improved a team though and/or achieved something tangible (promotion, consolidation in a higher league, cup win) then fair enough if they want to go and take step up.

If Carrick carries on like this and gets us into the play-offs sides will come sniffing though. Very very early days yet.

I was one of the first to question his appointment and quite vocal about it too.

While it's early days I must say I'm mightily impressed. I didn't actually think we had the quality to play the high tempo football we saw last night. I know there were a few cries of "it's only Blackpool" but we'd have beaten most teams in the league playing like that.

Movement and passing when in possession has been exceptional and we've finally found some stamina in midfield!

Forss
Akpom
Hackney

3 bonus players there. I don't think it's as massively lacking as was being made out.
That’s true, I would have said a few weeks ago we were desperate for strikers but Forss and Akpom look very strong together, I would still like to see us replace Munez but it’s not a priority

We definitely need the midfield strengthening, young players form can drop off as quick as it comes as we can see with Jones, also don’t think Howson and Crooks are good enough long term either

Howson is good enough in the position Carrick is using him. He wasn't good enough for what Wilder was asking of him. He's too old to be the future though, needs a replacement lining up sooner rather than later.

A bit that stood out from Akpoms interview on BBC was about how he now knows where other players are going to be on the pitch without having to look up. Something I thought would be a given with a professional team but apparently not.

No way will utd take a chance on Carrick without proving himself in the prem first. Plus he seems to have his head screwed on and won't jump too soon. He'll be happy to get some solid experience before moving on. If he gets us up and keeps us in prem then everyone is a winner.
Lack of proven Premiership capability hasn't stopped them hiring the last four.

It was a great move on Carrick's part to partner him alongside young Hackney. Wilder was asking Howson to play the sole defensive midfield role. Is it any wonder we were regularly over-run in midfield.

I do agree that we need a defensive midfielder bringing in asap though. Howson can't go on forever.
