Message from Gareth Southgate - Dear England

Yeah I agree, but I still want us to win it. I enjoyed the nations league if I’m honest. Nothing on the Euros or world cup but still enjoyable and meaningful

oh sorry, I was being a bit facetious. I’d absolutely love us to win the nations league like I was when Boro won the League Cup.

I don’t as international football is a dif game are clubs queuing up for jogi love ?
Let me tell you why. Southgate understands far more than just football, he understands, culture, organisational change, transformation and other concepts from other industries. If you want a quick fix then onto the next man, he isn't the right person. He's a long term strategist, a culture creator, and he has invested himself in this and found out how to implement his philosophy. If Warnock is your 1970s shouty British Leyland factory boss, Southgate is your Tesla factory manager following modern management principles. He understands sports science, psychology, media management. Whereas more traditional football managers try and rule by fear, by screaming get stuck in and close him down, Southgate trusts in his players to learn and be students of the game. Give him premium footballers at a champions league club with the right coaches around him and he will make long term success. I think he is a breath of fresh air to the game.

His career around here is being defined by what happens when he was given the job with no training, no prep, and a bad hand with little money. His first two seasons he was learning and kept us up, that was success. His third was a disaster, since then his 7 years with U21s and senior team have been a success. So 1 bad year in 10 and there are mitigating circumstances. A club like Barca, Real, Milan, PSG, Spurs, or Arsenal would all be good sides for him in a couple of seasons, where his philosophy meets the clubs.

I wanted to like your post twice mate. Absolutely spot on.

It was a tournament that nobody would have batted an eyelid about had we been knocked out as early as usual the year before in the world cup. We're going through a post 1990 phase at the moment where some fans think we're the best in the world. It's already lasted longer than it did back then, thanks to Covid. Let's hope it lasts even longer this time.

of course they would, if we were to be relegated to league B, fans would started to question the manager, we didn't we got to the semi's and played some good footy and had some good wins. The current competition we didn't do as well and guess what the fans started to question Southgate. There is a significant group of fans that are claiming "we have gone backwards since the world cup". Well we comfortably qualified for the euro's, and "friendlies don't count", so they are basing this on something and the Nations League is the only competitive football they could base it on.

We did go back a touch in this competition, but largely because of a stupid red card for Maguire not the manager, not tactics. We actually beat Belgium in a competitive game for the first time since 90
