Message from Chuba

It doesn’t really change anything from last night's speculation other than he may play soon. Not sure why there’s so much drama about this, he’s here this season unless an offer comes in that suits Boro and him. If he helps get us promoted we won’t care if he walks away for nothing!

I hope he does play for us, then all we are waiting for is a LB, Ramsey + others to return from injury then we are as good as last season, imo Coburn makes for an exciting centre forward option.

We really should move in from all last season's loaners, Inc Ramsey, never go back is very true.
Ramsey too injury prone

We've already replaced Ramsey I think so I doubt he'll be coming back. Plus, he seems too injury prone to be reliable at this stage of his career, hope he gets through that like some young players do.

Some pretty unequivocal quotes in there for the people who still bizarrely think he's been faking an injury for the last month.
So what’s out of his control? He wants to stay, you’d assume the club want him to stay, or do they actually want to cash in now? I get the feeling that the club will be trying to get him to sign a new contract but on the cheap.

Presumably the negotiations which will be conducted by the club and his agents. His agents want X and the club may be offering X minus 25%. Hopefully they will meet somewhere in the middle, and the sooner the better.

Surely he means that what the club decides to do is out of his control? All the faff of the past day or two and it turns out Carrick wasn’t lying about the injury and the player himself would like to stay. It’s up to the club now, who may have bids from elsewhere to consider as well.

It’s not as simple as just offering him a big fat contract to stay because the club may feel the opportunity to cash in may not come again. This is possibly very tricky situation they’re in and it’s possibly a lot more complicated than people think. If he wants to stay but the club have been offered £15m, what do you do? It’s five times what they paid and he’s got a year left.

Conjecture on my part, that, but it’s just nowhere near as straightforward as it seems IMO. Or very rarely anyway.

You do realise he can reject a contract, reject a transfer and take his chances as a free agent I’m sure, so who again holds ALL the cards? Chuba has been treated a tad shabbily in the past. I don’t blame him for playing hardball.

Chuba holds the vast majority of the cards because he can run his contract down and move on. But if he does that and has a sh*t season then he won’t be going to West Ham or Everton or Palace and getting a fat Premier League contract, he’ll be going to another Championship club or out to Greece or Turkey. He’s still only had one good season in English football and he’s 27.

Has he been treated shabbily by the club in the past? Yes. He’s also had games where he’s been utter dogsh*t. There’s a reason nobody was picking him to play for Boro but he appeared to come back last summer a changed man and that speaks volumes about him and his character.

Also you don’t know he’s playing hardball. It might the club. Or his agent. Or Mrs Akpom. Who knows. But, of course, someone working for the club must be at fault here and must be taken to task for it.

Sounds to me he is off. Club probs accepted an offer in principle and buying club waiting until chuba proves his firness. If club says he has to go. Chuba doesnt really have a choice no matter if he wants to stay

It doesn't really matter if he doesn't sign a contract still be confident he performs well. As its up to him to do exceptional to get a lucrative new deal next summer either here if we make the Premier league after he scores a bucketful again or elsewhere
